To say Daisy Johnson’s debut novel Everything Under (her first published work, Fen, was a collection of stories) is confusing at times would be an understatement. Yet, there is something compelling about it that makes you keep reading it, and wanting to find out what exactly is going on.

Let’s face it, with Winter starting to ramp up and the snow starting to fall, you are probably going to be spending a fair bit of time sitting inside curled up either in bed or on the couch with a good book to keep you company. You can either pick up an old favourite and re-enter a world you’ve enjoyed before, or grab something new you’ve never experienced. Here are some of the top new novels coming out soon that you may want to consider.
The last couple of years Toronto has been magical during the holiday season, and by magical we mean that you could spend an evening at the theatre watching some of the world’s greatest illusionists plying their trade. As luck would have it such a show is available once again this year, but it’s a different show, with a different group of performers, and it’s an evening you just don’t want to miss.

Cirque Du Soleil’s visit to Toronto is an annual event, and when they skipped the big top experience in the late summer / early fall it felt like somehow the year just wasn’t right. Thankfully the touring show is in Toronto this weekend at the Scotiabank Arena from the 12th – 16th with Corteo, and although you don’t get to see the show under the big top, it’s an event you won’t want to miss.

You can tell when winter, and more specifically the Christmas holidays have arrived when winter festivals start popping up all across Canada. Some have been running for many years, yet each year new ones start appearing. Starting today The Aurora Festival in Toronto at Ontario Place makes its premiere, and its a beautiful way to spend an evening out with the family.

The Scotiabank Giller Prize has been handed out for 25 years, recognizing excellence in Canadian fiction. Not only does the recipient win the award, but they also get a cash prize of $100,000.00. Last night author Esi Edugyan took home the award for her novel Washington Black, which happened to be the second time she had won it.

Toronto’s newest attraction feels like something you would find in Niagara Falls Clifton Hill area. It’s the Museum of Illusions, and inside you will find many photo opportunities and games to play that will trick your brain into seeing something that’s not entirely true.

It used to be that when you got together with friends to play a game of cards, you opened a new deck (or an old one that’s been used many, many times), and played the old standbys like poker, euchre, rummy or one of the other many possibilities out there. Things have changed though, and now there are many different unique cards games you can have a blast with. Here are some of the latest you may want to give a try.

With temperatures quickly dropping, it’s officially time to curl up in front of the fireplace with a cozy quilt and the perfect read. Whether you are staying in for the weekend or simply enjoying a night in, the ideal book can help make those peaceful autumn hours at home pass by much faster. Just in time for plaid scarves and toasty mugs of hot chocolate, we’ve curated a few exciting new tomes for you to pick up right now.
