This summer, art lovers will have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to view a giant collection of the mysterious Banksy’s art in Canada’s very own the 6ix.
Tomorrow evening, Toronto’s prestigious art gala Power Ball returns to the city, partnering with Italian fashion house Max Mara for the fourth year in a row. The event, which launched its first annual gala in 1999, is also celebrating its 20th anniversary with a circus themed extravaganza. Led by honourary chair Nancy McCain, the Power Ball takes place tomorrow evening at the Power Plant Contemporary Art Gallery at 231 Queens Quay West. The event is set to combine the creative, diverse worlds of visual art, fashion, music, media and more.
This spring, Canada is truly shaping up to be an art lover’s dream. With so many intriguing exhibits hitting the most stylish and creative cities across the True North, there’s no need to jet off to Europe or book a weekend trip to the Big Apple if you are in an artsy mood. In the season to come, Canada’s finest galleries and museums are set to welcome an eclectic mix of modern and contemporary art.
Krista Kim’s “Digital Consciousness” art exhibit hits Toronto just in time for Nuit Blanche, and is set to take place at Toronto’s Only One Gallery from September 30 to October 1. Kim is a Canadian-born artist and also a member of the “techism” movement, which aims to reflect today’s digital age through the merge of modern innovation and art.
Nuit Blanche returns to Toronto tomorrow night, and is set to transform the city’s downtown core into an artistic space, filled with contemporary art exhibits and live performances. From sunset to sunrise, Toronto’s streets will be covered in vibrant artwork that is created by Canadian and international artists. The event will feature large scale art projects in bustling public spaces across the city, such as Queen’s Park and Nathan Phillips Square.
Though the city has its fair share of amazing major galleries, there are also a number of smaller galleries that are making a big impact in the art world. Whether you’re photography-obsessed or interested in local work, this city has something for every kind of art lover. We’ve rounded up our top independent art galleries in Toronto.
