5 Tips For Strong, Healthy Nails This Winter

The winter season can wreak havoc on nails. When winter approaches, many of us change the way we take care of our skin. Nails too could use a bit of extra attention. Check out five of our top tips for strong, healthy nails this winter.

Nourish your nails. Nails and the skin around them can crack when dry and brittle. Consider using cuticle cream, Vaseline or a nail moisturizer daily. Damaged and dry cuticles affect your entire nail and weaken it.

Think short nails. During the colder months, it can be easier to maintain healthy nails when they are shorter.

Invest in a humidifier. Many of us find our homes drier in the winter. A humidifier adds moisture to the air, helping dry skin and nails.

Wear gloves when you do housework. All of the chemicals you use when cleaning your house and washing dishes can have a negative effect on your fingernails. Protect your hands and nails with rubber gloves.

Buff and polish your nails. Buffing or massaging your fingernails keeps them strong, shiny and increases blood flow. This means your nails may even grow faster. By adding nail polish on top, you are also helping protect nails from the elements.
