Immersive Van Gogh Exhibit Opens In Toronto On May 1st

Starting in May, Toronto will be home to a monumental Van Gogh Exhibition. The immersive, digital art experience will be making it’s world premiere in the city as it takes over 600,000 cubic feet in the heart of downtown.

The exhibition will take over a vacant five-story building at 1 Yonge St, which is right across from the Toronto Star newsroom. The warehouse was the former home to the printing presses for the newspaper, and hasn’t been used since 1992 when they moved production out of the city.  In a released statement, co-producer Svetlana Dvoretsky said “The exhibition is specifically designed to envelop every square inch of the expansive 600,000 cu.ft. venue to create a seamless transformative experience. There were very few venues in the city that could accommodate the proportions, scale and unbridled creativity of Siccardi and Longobardi. It’s an ambitious undertaking and will be unlike anything North American audiences have ever experienced before.”

The exhibition invites visitors to “step inside Vincent van Gogh’s most incredible works of art through an all-encompassing experience of art, light, sound, movement and imagination.”  The exhibition will feature a selection of images from Van Gogh’s 2000+ lifetime catalogue of masterpieces, including Mangeurs de pommes de terre, the Nuit étoilée, Les Tournesols, and La Chambre à coucher. They will presented as “how the artist first saw the scenes they are based on: active life and moving landscapes turned into sharp yet sweeping brushstrokes.”

Co-producer Corey Ross said in a statement that “IMMERSIVE VAN GOGH is astonishing in scale, breathtakingly stunning and induces a completely novel experience to the iconic works of Van Gogh. We’re incredibly excited to be working directly with the masters of the art form of immersive digital art to present the foremost exhibition of this calibre and artistic innovation to Canada.”

Immersive Van Gogh opens on May 1st, and tickets go on sale today. General Admission starts at $39.99, and can be purchased at vangoghexhibit.ca or by phone.
