FASHION NEWS: Crystal Renn For Chanel

Monday, August 23rd, 2010

chanel crystal renn ads

All of the fashion world is buzzing over the new Chanel ad campaign featuring plus-size model Crystal Renn. The first peak of Crystal Renn starring in the campaign for the reopening of the Chanel Soho store were released today.

It wasn’t that long ago that Karl Lagerfeld said “no one wants to see round women.” The fact that he has now hired Crystal for the Chanel ads is a big coup for the model. She also walked in the Chanel resort show in Saint Tropez in May.

For the past few months as the fashion weight debate heated up, Crystal Renn has been in fashion news headlines often. Not only is she a role model for other plus size models because of her personal struggle, but she also never shies away from taking the spotlight on runways around the world and in spread in V Magazine.

In the Chanel ads, the focus is off of Crystal’s size and sticks to her beautiful face. Fashion news sources say Crystal Renn and male model Baptiste Giabiconi shot the black and white ads in Paris with Karl Lagerfeld.

FASHION SHOWS: Haute Couture Fashion Week – Giorgio Armani Prive, Givenchy & Chanel

Tuesday, July 6th, 2010

The fashion shows of haute couture fashion week continue in Paris with fashion shows from some of the world’s top designers. Today three of the most recognizable names in fashion all put on extravagant fashion shows for haute couture week: Armani, Givenchy and Chanel.

Unlike some haute couture fashion shows, the Giorgio Armani Prive garments were very wearable. With a neutral colour palette of mainly shades of beige, the Giorgio Armani Prive fashion show had an air of elegance about it. The looks were many tailored suits with short jackets and oversized sparkling hardware. The collection had a professional air about it with knee length flared skirts and flowing overcoats.

Evening wear was all sequins and sparkle. Long gowns in the same muted nude and brown shades sparkled with sequins of all sizes. We are sure to see a few of these gowns on the red carpet this fall.

See the Giorgio Armani Prive fashion show video here:

The Givenchy haute couture fashion show had intricate and detailed elements in all the garments shown. Givenchy designer Riccardo Tisci put an incredible amount of detail into each of the 10 garments displayed in the fashion show. One crystal dress took 1,600 hours to create! That is dedication to your job.

There was a coat made of thin strips of leather, a dress detailed with delicate ostrich feathers, hand jeweled and embroidered gowns on display. With an inspiration from the Mexican Day of The Dead and religion the Givenchy haute couture fashion show is one to be viewed up close.

Chanel closed the day of haute couture fashion shows with a celebration of the luxurious and rich. Real Style Network followed Canadian fashion icon Jeanne Beker as she tweeted live from the Chanel show. Jeanne described the Chanel haute couture collection as having “rich reds,” “exquisite embroidery” and “crystal encrusted coats.”

With a large gold lion in the centre of the stage and male models in lion heads, Karl Lagerfeld’s Chanel collection dazzled the fashion show critics once again.

FASHION NEWS: Georgia Jagger For Chanel

Friday, May 21st, 2010

georgia-jagger-chanel-cruise

Last week all of the fashion news editors were in Saint Tropez loving the 2010 Chanel Resort collection. Today the fashion company has released the first images of the ad campaign for the resort collection featuring model Georgia Jagger.

At just 18 years old, Georgia Jagger (who happens to be Mick Jagger’s daughter) has had a big modelling year. First she was named British Model of the Year and now she is chosen by Karl Lagerfeld to front a Chanel campaign. Karl Lagerfeld told Vogue he chose Georgia Jagger because she is a “modern girl” who looks at home in the Chanel resort collection. We can’t help but agree she looks stunning in this first picture released from the new Chanel campaign.

FASHION SHOWS: Crystal Renn Walks For Chanel

Thursday, May 13th, 2010

crystal-renn-chanel-fashion-show-2  crystal-renn-chanel-fashion-show

Plus size model Crystal Renn has been making quite the splash in Saint Tropez according to fashion experts:Lisa Tant Editor-In-Chief of Flare Magazine, Jeanne Beker host of Fashion Television and Bernadette Morra Editor-In-Chief of Fashion Magazine who have been reporting from Cannes on Chanel’s 2011 Resort collection fashion show. Crystal Renn walked in the fashion show.

The size 12 model made a surprise appearance by walking the runway for Chanel twice during the 2011 Resort collection. Everyone loved her. Lisa Tant tweeted: Mystery to me why Crystal Renn is called “plus-sized” model. While not a tall stick like other Chanel girls, she looks normal, not “plus”.

Crystal Renn made a name for herself when she spoke out against the weight issues in the fashion industry. Renn wrote a book about her time as a size 0 model with an eating disorder. Now that she is a healthy weight, she has been the poster child for the industry revolution to use healthier models. She was featured in a spread in V Magazine and walked in the Mark Fast fashion show. Crystal Renn also walked the runway during Toronto Fashion Week for Canadian designer Joe Fresh.

It was smart for Karl Lagerfeld to use Crystal Renn in his show because he has made fashion news headlines in the past for slamming plus size models. He said that only fat mommies are complaining about skinny models. Kudos to Karl for changing his mind and using a plus-size model in this Chanel cruisewear fashion show.

FASHION NEWS: Louis Vuitton Is The Most Powerful Luxury Brand

Friday, April 30th, 2010

louis-vuitton-neverfullLouis Vuitton remains the king of all luxury brands. This week the annual list of World’s Most Powerful Luxury Brands was released showing which fashion brands top the high end market. This economy saw many luxury brands suffer, while more affordable priced fashion lines soared in stores. Some luxury brands still managed to make a profit though. Louis Vuitton topped the list again this year.

While the luxury category as a whole was down 3% in sales, Louis Vuitton managed to make a profit of 2% this past year. They say the reason Louis Vuitton saw a rise in sales was because they focused on their heritage as a travel brand, appealing to the jet setting luxury buyers.

Rounding out the top three were Hermes and Gucci. These were the only other two fashion brands on the list that saw an increase in sales last year. These two fashion companies were actually expanding by creating new partnerships and campaigns, while many other companies were slowing down. This goes to show that taking some risks in the fashion world can sometimes pay off.

The top 10 luxury brands are:

1. Louis Vuitton
2. Hermes
3. Gucci
4. Chanel
5. Hennessy
6. Rolex
7. Moet & Chandon
8. Cartier
9. Fendi
10. Tiffany & Co.

FASHION SHOWS:Paris Fashion Week Reviews & Videos -Chanel, Vuitton,Gaultier.

Friday, March 12th, 2010

Real Style Network has been following all of the action from Paris Fashion Week and we have waited to bring you the highlights and reviews from the top shows. Paris Fashion Week is THE event of the season with the biggest names in fashion presenting their Fall/Winter 2010 collections on the runway. For our first wrap up we have chosen the following designers: Chanel, Louis Vuitton, and Jean Paul Gaultier.

Grand PalaisCHANEL

In one of the most talked about shows of the week, Karl Lagerfeld imported a 265-ton iceberg from Sweden into the middle of Paris’ Grand Palais for the Chanel Fall 2010 show. The –4 temperatures needed to allow the iceberg to be the centerpiece of the set accentuated the cozy Chanel collection shown. Unlike other designers this season, Karl Lagerfeld chose to use faux fur in the Chanel collection. There was a lot of it. Full body fur coats, pants and boots were all a part of the collection. Leather jackets, miniskirts and shirts were trimmed with more faux fur. Are you going to be wearing a fur skirt on the street? Perhaps not, but the message for next season from top designers is definitely soft and furry, would look great in a vest, boots, hats and even bags.

louis-vuittonLOUIS VUITTON

For Fall 2010, Marc Jacobs was inspired by old cinema when he created the Louis Vuitton collection. He cast curvy supermodels like Elle Macpherson, Bar Refaeli and Adriana Lima to model the clothes. Tweed suits and wool and chiffon dresses with nipped in waists appeared in the collection. Jacobs accentuated the models’ curves with tight corsets and hip hugging skirts. Skirts were ¾ length made of heavy materials. It was a ladylike collection following trends we have seen in Christian Dior and Marc Jacobs’ own collection. Of course, as it is Louis Vuitton, the handbags were exquisite. Marc Jacobs reinvented the classic Louis Vuitton Speedy bag with sequins, lace and fur. Watch the Louis Vuitton Fall/Winter 2010 fashion show here:

Jean Paul Gaultier took his inspiration for this season from cultures around the world. Hints of styles from Morocco, Russia, Greece, China and more could be seen in his designs for fall. Gaultier told the Telegraph, “It’s all about a journey around the world, and sometimes it includes several countries in one outfit, even Europe.” The styles included African headdresses, Chinese silks, European embroidery, Mongolian furs and Spanish dresses. He combined these things with modern street wear like sweatpants, knitted sweaters, pea coats and leather jackets.

FASHION DESIGNER: Karl Lagerfeld Profile

Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010

karl-lagerfeldWhat name comes up when you think of modern fashion industry legends? Among a list of the top names in fashion sits Karl Lagerfeld, a man who has been in the fashion industry for decades working at the most coveted fashion houses ever. His 50 years on the fashion business have not been without controversy. See below for some of the highlights.

History:
Karl Lagerfeld grew up in Germany always knowing that he wanted a place in the fashion world. He moved to Paris in the 50’s to begin his informal education in fashion and quickly won a spot as Pierre Balmain’s assistant after beating Yves Saint Laurent in a design competition.

Karl Lagerfeld earned his dues working hard to perfect his design. His first haute couture collection for Jean Patou was actually booed by the press. Karl didn’t let that stop him from achieving his dream and he moved forward.

In 1972, Karl Lagerfeld began working for the fashion house Fendi, a collaboration that still exists to this day.

In 1983, Lagerfeld was named the art director of Chanel and together the fashion house and Lagerfeld have become a brand to be reckoned with. Karl Lagerfeld is the only major fashion designer without a house to call his own. But he has transformed Chanel and brought it into the modern day.

Currently he designs collections for Chanel, Fendi, Lagerfeld, Karl Lagerfeld and k Karl Lagerfeld.chanel-couture-fashion

The Artist:
Lagerfeld is not just a fashion designer though. The man is a skilled artist who has illustrated books and an achieved photographer. For decades, Karl Lagerfeld has been shooting the ad campaigns for Chanel and Fendi as well as taking pictures for fashion magazines, such as V Magazine.

Controversy:
Through the years, Lagerfeld has been the subject of controversy. In the 1990’s, Anna Wintour walked out of a Fendi show when Karl Lagerfeld used strippers and adult film stars as models.

His use of fur has caused a longstanding battle with PETA, who tried to pie him in 2001. Karl Lagerfeld has said about fur: In a meat eating world, wearing leather for shoes and even clothes, the discussion of fur is childish.

More recently he has received criticism on his input on the weight issues of models. The fashion designer said that Heidi Klum “is no runway model. She is simply too heavy and has too big a bust.” And caused outrage by saying that “no one wants to see round models.”

Karl Lagerfeld stands alone in the fashion world. Because of his intellect, because of his mastery of dressmaking, because of his German love of literature and humor, because of his evergreen curiosity, he alone among the designers of his generation has stayed vital and contemporary. He was trained in couture in the 1950s by people who were themselves trained in the 1920s, and it’s safe to say there is not a technique or trick he does not know.New York Times

Love him or hate him. As Dior and Yves St. Laurent, Lagerfeld name is forever associated with high fashion of the 20th and now the 21st century.
