With the remaining few weeks of summer rushing past, it may be too late book that dream vacation if you have been parked at your desk. However, you can still enjoy a small retreat without leaving the province. Here is our guide to embracing late summer in Ontario without the need for booking a flight ticket:

1) Niagara on the Lake: known as one of the loveliest towns in Ontario, take a stroll back through history and take time to enjoy fine dining, shopping, world class theatre, and some very historical Canadian sites. Located in the heart of Ontario’s wine region, there are various wineries to spend time at and enjoy. The Niagara Falls are very close by for visitors to enjoy as well!

2) Scarborough Bluffs: Stretching out about 15 kilometers along the Lake Ontario shore from the beaches of Toronto to East Point Park in the east, the Scarborough Bluffs are a gigantic geological feature formed by natural processes of wind and water erosion from Lake Ontario. The spectacular scenery is beautiful a perfect escape. Offering trails, beaches and gardens, there are gorgeous views for individuals to look at and walk around.

3) Toronto Islands: The Toronto Islands provide a refreshing escape outside of the city with beautiful views of Lake Ontario. The islands feature touristy attractions such as renting canoes and kayaks, renting a bike from the Bicycle Centre or playing golf at the golf course on the island. Hop on a ferry and head on over to the Toronto Islands for a little getaway.

4) Algonquin Park: A perfect way to disconnect without taking a flight, head on over to Algonquin Park, Ontario’s oldest provincial park. Camping is one of the more popular activities as there are eight campgrounds to choose from. Explore the scenic park by foot or by canoe for those who are more adventurous. There are also 14 trails for hikers to climb.

5) Prince Edward County: Located just two hours from Toronto, get away from the daily grind of work and unwind. Take time to explore the county arts trail, taste trail and over 40 wineries. Shop at local antique stores and explore the beaches, parks and hiking trails. With fun things to do with kids such as carriage rides and horseback riding, there is something for everyone.
