Although indie music fans will be flocking to Osheaga this summer, Montreal also has a reputation as Canada’s fashion and culture capital. With summertime weather officially here, Canadians will be in the mood for plenty of laughs, beats and couture creations. From the Just for Laughs Festival to the Fashion and Design Festival, we’ve curated our must visit Montreal events for Summer 2016.

Juste Pour Rire (Just For Laughs) Festival: The world-renowned entertainment festival is an annual global gathering of the largest figures in the comedy world. Taking place from July 13-31st, the Just For Laughs Festival is featuring performances by Kevin Hart, Sarah Silverman, Russell Peters, Lewis Black and many more. For all you comedy fans out there, check out one of the several comedy shows taking place in Montreal during the Just for Laughs Festival.

Fantasia Film Festival: Spanning out from July 14th to August 5th, the Fantasia International Film Festival is recognized as one of the largest events of its kind in North America. The festival is a leader on the genre film scene and one of the country’s most popular film festivals. With a variety of programming and a heavy emphasis on the cinema of Europe, Asia, and America, Fantasia offers a range of unique visions which are very rarely seen in North America. Check out the Fantasia International Film Festival in order to get a glimpse of some genre films this summer.

Heavy MTL Music Festival: For all fans of rock, punk and metal, HEAVY MONTREAL is the destination for you. The festival welcomes 300,000 fans yearly, who come together to rock out to bands including Metallica, The Offspring, Motley Crue, and System of a Down. Taking place on August 6 and 7 at Plaine des Jeux, Parc Jean-Drapeau, fans experience world-class rock music as well as diverse food and drink choices.

Fashion & Design Festival: Taking place on August 15th through 20th, the Fashion and Design Festival is a one-of-a-kind occasion featuring 50 shows, with over 300 participants, expecting 550,00 visitors. Each year, various well-known Canadian designers, retailers and international fashion icons share their art in live creative sessions, fashion shows and design showcases. Musical performances are also included in the festival. For those who are design oriented and all about fashion, this festival is perfect for you.
