For urbanites who are looking for a break from the fast-paced lifestyle of the city, try escaping to serene and gorgeous Prince Edward Island for the ultimate retreat. Whether you hail from Vancouver or call Toronto home, the shores of PEI just may be your new getaway this season. If you’re craving seafood or in the mood for blueberry pie, keep these local activities in mind as you explore the breathtaking island.

Watch Spoon River at the 2016 Charlottetown Festival from July 6- August 20: As part of the Charlottetown Festival, this musical has officially arrived at the Confederation Centre. While you’re on the island, drop by the theatre to catch this stage adaptation of Edgar Lee Masters’ Spoon River Anthology. Although the musical first made an appearance at Toronto’s Soulpepper Theatre, it is now slated to show in Charlottetown. The story involves poetry from dead residents of the town of Spoon River, recited on stage in a mysterious and passionate manner.

Enjoy tunes at the Cavendish Beach Music Festival from July 8-10: The annual event takes place on a former cow pasture, and claims to be Atlantic Canada’s largest multi-day music festival. This year, the festivities on Cavendish Beach include performances from country music stars Blake Shelton and Kenny Chesney. Sibling act The Band Perry (which includes Kimberly, Reid and Neil Perry) are also slated to make an appearance.

Tuck into seafood at the Summerside Lobster Festival from July 18-24: Naturally, your summer vacation on the island wouldn’t be complete without tempting fresh lobster. The Summerside Lobster Festival features an opening day parade, a boat tour, a midway and the TRILOBSTER Triathlon championship race on July 27. Visitors can chug beer from Upstreet Craft Brewing, enjoy a traditional lobster dinner or participate in the Summerside Recreational Volleyball Tournament.

Grab dessert at the St. Peter’s Wild Blueberry Festival from July 30- August 7: For anyone looking to snack on summertime’s essential antioxidant-packed berry, this annual Blueberry Festival just might satisfy your cravings. From a parade and fireworks to a dance event and a blueberry pancake brunch, the festival combines blueberry treats with summery celebrations.
