1) Icefields Parkway, Alberta: Known as one of the most beautiful roads in the world, the scenic road between Jasper National Park and Banff could easily be known to hold the most spectacular view along its winding turns. The Icefields Parkway stretches over 230 kilometres of continuous mountain scenery and wildlife, making it a popular road-trip destination for any season. For Canucks wanting to embrace the great outdoors this winter, drive through the heart of Alberta to get a glimpse of the massive glaciers and snow-covered peaks of the Canadian Rockies. Make the best out of your one-day trip and take a ride along the icy paths on a Columbia Icefield Glacier Adventure or visit the Glacier Skywalk to get a closer look of the steep, rocky cliffs. If you’re planning for a longer stay, stay a night in the Wapiti Campground along the Icefields Parkway to bask in the bountiful winter landscape.

2) Sea-to-Sky Highway, British Columbia: If the name itself doesn’t inspire you to take a winter drive then the stunning sea-side views might just change your mind. The Sea-to-Sky Highway takes you from the bustling city streets of Vancouver to north past Whistler and all the way to Pemberton. Boasting one of the best natural views, cruise along the ocean vistas of Howe Sound and admire the snow-trickled mountains as you cross over bridges. Make pit stops along the way and explore the coastal villages for artisanal treats and scenic viewpoints. Lastly, venture to the Sea to Sky Gondola and soar over the snow-capped mountains for breathtaking views.

3) The Gaspésie Tour, Québec: Make your way to the Québec Maritime and cruise along the mountain side of Gaspé Peninsula for a peaceful winter escape through rural Québec that will make you feel like you’re in a foreign land. Voted as one of Canada’s top Places of a Lifetime in 2013 by National Geographic Traveller, the Gaspé Peninsula attracts several skiers in the winter season with its powdered-snow trails and exotic sea backdrop. However, if winter sports are not in your agenda, take the Gaspésie Tour and drive along the rugged cliffs by the Gulf of St. Lawrence.  The Gaspésie Tour spans the Bas-Saint Laurent region and loops around the Peninsula with sights of shipbuilding villages, historical lighthouses and the natural wonder of the Percé Rock.

4) Cabot Trail, Nova Scotia: Head to the Maritimes and get a taste of Nova Scotia as you drive through its world-renowned Cabot Trail. Situated in Cape Breton Island, the Cabot Trail measures 297 kilometres in distance, tracing the shoreline of the island, and is open all year-round. The vast highlands and unobstructed ocean views create the perfect backdrop for a romantic winter getaway while the curved roads, scenic turns and rugged trails amidst the highlands will make you feel like you’re on the edge of the world. Although its natural beauty takes centre stage, you’ll find many eclectic, cultural communities sprawled along the route. Treat yourself to some fresh lobster in Baddeck, a specialty amongst many restaurants in the island, and take a stroll along the boardwalk in Cheticamp and browse through the artisanal shops for some handmade Acadian treasures.
