Netflix To Create Vikings Sequel, Valhalla
In a couple of weeks History Channel’s epic series Vikings will start airing their final season. The 20-episode season will be divided into two parts, with the first premiering on December 6th. Before the dust settles on the series though, a sequel is being prepared by Netflix called Vikings: Valhalla.
Valhalla will be set 100 years after the events of the original show, so none of the original cast will be returning, or even making a cameo. Netflix hasn’t said much about the new show other than it will follow the stories of “the most famous Vikings who ever lived,” which includes Leif Erikson, Freydis, Harald Harada and the Norman King William the Conqueror. Michael Hirst, who created Vikings, will return as an executive producer, with Jeb Stuart serving as writer and showrunner.
In a released statement, Hirst said “I am beyond excited that we are announcing the continuation of our ‘Vikings’ saga. I know that the millions of our fans across the globe will be thrilled by the belief being shown in our show by MGM and Netflix. Jeb Stuart, a truly wonderful writer, will bring new story-lines and a powerful visceral vision to stories about some of the most famous Vikings known to history.”
Netflix Original executive Channing Dungey added “Vikings: Valhalla promises to be everything that fans love about the franchise: heart-pounding, unstoppable action rooted in rich characters and dramatic storytelling that shines the light on family, loyalty and power.”
Vikings first aired in 2013, with only Gustaf Skarsgård and former two-time Real Style cover-girl Katheryn Winnick being in the majority of all six seasons.
