Watch The Downton Abbey Movie Trailer

When Downton Abbey went off the air in 2015, the first things fans wondered was “when is the movie coming?” After all the award-winning show had plenty of space to continue, and didn’t necessarily have to end when it did. It took three years, until July 2018 to be exact, for the announcement to come that a movie was indeed on its way, and now for the first time a trailer has been released.

The trailer for Downton Abbey first premiered this morning on the NBC morning show “Today”, and shortly afterwards it the trailer was Tweeted out and posted online. Of course the trailer was shown at CinemaCon back in April as well, but somehow managed to avoid leaking. While not much of a plot has been given out, it is known that the film will take place in 1927, which is a couple of years after the end of the TV series. It will also revolved around the royal visit of King George V and Queen Mary to Downton Abbey. The trailer shows a little of the Crawley family and their servants getting ready for the visit. The stars of the TV show have all returned as well, including Michelle Dockery, Jim Carter, Hugh Bonneville, Maggie Smith, Laura Carmichael, Penelope Wilton and Elizabeth McGovern. Series creator Julian Fellowes wrote and produced the feature, with Michael Engler directing. Engler had previously directed four episodes of the series, including the finale.

The Downton Abbey film will be released in the U.K. on September 13th of this year, with the North American premiere coming a week later.
