Arrow’s Eighth Season Will Be Its Last
When the CW launched Arrow in 2012, there were no plans for an extended DC Universe on TV. It was just one of many shows the network started that year, and it caught on fast. It followed the story of Oliver Queen, who returned home to Starling City after being presumed dead for five years. During his time away, shipwrecked on a deserted island, Queen became a master of the bow and arrow and created his superhero persona of Green Arrow to fight crime. The show made star Stephen Amell a household name, and one of the biggest stars on TV. And it helped launch the “Arrowverse”, which is a series of TV shows such as The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow and Supergirl, that all exist in the same universe. Now however it’s been announced that the show is coming to an end after eight years.
“This was a difficult decision to come to, but like every hard decision we’ve made for the past seven years, it was with the best interests of ‘Arrow’ in mind,” Arrow’s executive producers said in a statement. “We’re heartened by the fact that ‘Arrow’ has birthed an entire universe of shows that will continue on for many years to come. We’re excited about crafting a conclusion that honors the show, its characters and its legacy and are grateful to all the writers, producers, actors, and — more importantly — the incredible crew that has sustained us and the show for over seven years.”
The show will return in the fall for 10 episode, and at the end of them the show will be done. Amell also took to Twitter after the news broke to give his fans his feelings on the matter. “Playing Oliver Queen has been the greatest professional experience of my life… but you can’t be a vigilante forever…There’s so much to say… for now I just want to say thank you.”
While Arrow may be ending, it is still on the CW’s highest rated shows, and the other “Arrowverse” shows will continue to be made. Including Batwoman, for which a pilot is currently being shot.
