Supergirl Gets A Full Season Pick Up

Supergirl may have started later than a lot of series when it premiered in late October, but it debuted to strong numbers and has kept it up week after week. Now it’s been rewarded with a full season pick-up.

Melissa Benoist stars as the titular hero and her secret identity Kara Danvers. When we first met Kara she had been hiding her abilities for several years, but after a plane carrying her best friend is about to crash she discovers her true destiny and saves the day. Calista Flockhart, Mehcad Brooks, Chyler Leigh, Jeremy Jordan and David Harewood round out the cast.

Supergirl had originally been given a 13 episode run, but after the pick-up it now will have a full 20-episode season. The series has averaged 11.24 million viewers a week since it premiered on Oct. 26. The series has been just as successful as producer Greg Berlanti’s other superhero dramas Arrow and The Flash.

Other shows that have been picked up for a full season so far this year include Limitless, Life in Pieces, Code Black, Grandfathered, The Grinder, Rosewood, Quantico, Dr. Ken, The Muppets, and the season’s biggest hit Blindspot.
