From Kendall & Kylie Jenner to Lorde, Hedley and Ed Sheeran, the 2014 MMVA’s Were A Blast

The 25th Annual Much Music Video Awards (or the MMVAs) aired last night on Much Music and CTV, and by all given accounts it was a huge success and Real Style was there to capture all the excitement of the night. From co-hosts Kendall and Kylie Jenner to performances by Lorde, Hedley and Ed Sheeran to the award winners themselves, the evening went off without a hitch and provided the thousands of gathered fans something to cheer about.

Hedley snagged 3 awards with their smash hit Anything, including Your Fave Video, Video of the Year and Pop Video of the Year.  The B.C. pop group kicked off the show with the rendition of their latest single Crazy For You.  The other multi-award winner for the evening was Drake, who wasn’t in attendance, but still grabbed the award for Hip-Hop Video the Year for Worst Behavior and International Video of the Year by a Canadian for Hold On, We’re Going Home.

Food seemed to be an ongoing theme of the evening, as Ed Sheeren handed out French Fries on the red carpet, and Hunger Games star Jena Malone gave out donuts to the crowd when she appeared on stage to hand out an award.

Another highlight of the evening was when the audience sang Happy Birthday to Imagine Dragons guitarist Wayne Sermon.  It was definitely the most touching part of the evening.

Perhaps the strangest incident of the evening happened during Lorde’s performance as she contorted her body into knots as she sang Tennis Courts and Team before falling to the stage while grasping a lamp.  The seventeen year old singer from New Zealand, who wore her own version of the ‘Sorting Hat,’ also won the award for International Video of the Year for her single Royals.

As for the hosts themselves, Kendall and Kylie Jenner did an admirable job, even though they strangely asked the crowd for a round of applause for themselves at one point.  They changed outfits multiple times through the show, but it was 18 year old Kendall’s high-cut double slit dress on the red carpet that attracted the most attention.

After the awards show finished the 2014 MMVA producer Sheila Sullivan said “Every year, it feels like it will be hard to top the year before, but the MMVAs remain one of the hottest parties in the country. From the incredibly talented Lorde and Imagine Dragons, to unbelievable homegrown talent like Kiesza, MAGIC! and Sam Roberts Band, to the thousands of fans at our front door, this 25th anniversary show felt as exciting as the first. Here’s to 25 more!”
