Mindy Kaling Talks To Jimmy Kimmel About Being A Normal Chubby Woman
Mindy Kaling may be a lot of things, actress, producer, author, but one thing she never wants to be is skinny. She recently was quoted in Vogue as saying “I don’t want to be skinny. I’m constantly in a state of self-improvement, but I don’t beat myself up over it.” Last night the star of The Mindy Project appeared on Jimmy Kimmel and talked to him about being a “normal, chubby woman” and how she found it weird to receive praise for her words.
“People were like, ‘That’s so great that you said it,’ and I didn’t think that was so weird. Every woman I know feels that way,” Kaling said to Kimmel. “I also am the recipient of a lot of backhanded compliments about it, where people are like, ‘It’s so nice that Mindy Kaling doesn’t feel she needs to subscribe to the ideals of beauty that other people do.’ And I’m like, ‘I do subscribe!’ They’re like, ‘It’s so refreshing that Mindy feels comfortable to let herself go and be a fat sea monster.’ By the way, I like run and work out. It takes a lot of effort to look like a normal, chubby woman. The way they talk about it, like, ‘She’s a pioneer because she’s glued to her sofa.'”
Jimmy Kimmel shared in her feelings too. He said “I get backhanded compliments all the time. Like, ‘Wow, you’ve lost a lot of weight. No, you’ve lost a lot of weight. You were very heavy.’ You don’t know how to react because it might be a compliment. You don’t know how to find it wherever it is hidden.”
