Lorde Covers Nirvana At The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame Induction
Everyone knew that Nirvana would be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Thursday night, and everyone knew that they would be performing. The question of the day however who would be performing with them. It was leaked earlier this week that Joan Jett would be one of the singers getting on stage with original band members Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic for the performance, but until the show hit the stage Thursday night no one even anticipated 17 year old Lorde.
Nirvana had disbanded two years before Lorde was born, but the New Zealand singer stole the show and perfectly sang “All Apologies”. Nirvana was all about teen angst, so it made sense that a teen would be one of the singers.
R.E.M. frontman Michael Stipe introduced the band. “This is about community,” he said. “Nirvana tapped into a voice that was yearning to be heard. Keep in mind the times, this was the late 1980s. The idea of America — that hopeful idea — had been dismantled.”
