Oscar Predictions – From The Best Acting Awards to Best Picture
The 2014 Oscars are finally here, with host Ellen DeGeneres. With all the usual glitz and glam that comes with it, the 86th annual event is sure to be the talk of the town this Sunday. Just who will win the actor and actress awards, and which of the 9 films will take home Tinseltown’s top prize? Real Style brings you their Oscar Predictions.
Almost all of this year’s Best Actress nominees all ready have an Oscar on their mantle. Sandra Bullock, Judi Dench, and Meryl Streep have all won Best Actress before and are all nominated. Amy Adams has been nominated 5 times, but this is her first nomination for Best Actress. Unfortunately however they are up against former winner Cate Blanchett who simply sparkled in Woody Allen’s Blue Jasmine. If there are any sure bets in our Oscar Predictions this year this would be it. The Best Supporting Actress field is a little less certain, with a few possible outcomes. It will most likely come down to last year’s Best Actress winner Jennifer Lawrence for her part in American Hustle and newcomer Lupita Nyong’o for 12 Years A Slave. We’ll go with Jennifer Lawrence who has been on quite a tear the last few years and seems likely to keep heading upwards.
Poor Leonardo DiCaprio. It seems like he is up for the Best Actor award every year, and yet he still hasn’t won. This year he finds himself stuck behind previous Best Actor winner Christian Bale and Matthew McConaughey who were just a little bit better than he was. Matthew McConaughey lost a ton of weight for his role in Dallas Buyers Club, and that is always something Oscar voters look for. In our Oscar predictions pool we’re definitely sticking with him. And speaking of Dallas Buyers club, we also think Jared Leto will win the Supporting Actor award for his role in the film. Even though he is up against Bradley Cooper, Jonah Hill and Michael Fassbender he still has the best odds to win. Especially since a lot of people didn’t even know it was him playing the role.
The Best Picture race is the tightest race we’ve seen in years. It’s hard to predict which of the nine films will win, so we will start the process of elimination. As good as Nebraska, Philomena and Her are, they just don’t have the push behind them as some of the other films do to win. Dallas Buyers Club and American Hustle are memorable for their performances, but not for their stories. Captain Phillips is good, but not that good. Which leaves us with Gravity, 12 Years A Slave and Wolf of Wall Street. Gravity will win Best Visual Effects, Best Cinematography, and possible Film and Sound editing, but it won’t win Best Picture. As for Wolf of Wall Street, it is the sort of movie that you either liked, or didn’t like, with no one just sort of liking it. That will be it’s downfall. That leaves 12 Years of Slave winning Best Picture in our official Oscar Predictions.
