Movies Opening August 26th, 2011
The last new batch of movies opening in August arrive tomorrow, and it’s a wide variety once again. Like a lot of weekends this year it seems as if Hollywood is trying to find something that will work. This weekend there is a new horror movie, a comedy, and an action flick.
First up is the new horror movie from the mind of Guillermo del Toro. Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark stars Katie Holmes and Guy Pearce as a couple who move into a new home and bring his daughter along for the ride. Unfortunately something evil is living in the basement, and they want claim the girl as one of their own. The trailers make this movie look positively frightening, and it could be a dark horse for the top opener this week.
To keep your funny bone feeling good, Our Idiot Brother also opens this weekend. Paul Rudd stars as a nice-guy who is sent to jail on a pot bust, and after being released on good behavior ends up having to find himself a new place to live. He ends up spending time with each of his three sisters (Elizabeth Banks, Zooey Deschanel and Emily Mortimer), much to their chagrin. As this is yet another R-rated comedy, this one may end up falling between the cracks.
And finally we come to Columbiana. Zoe Saldana stars as an assassin seeking revenge on the drug dealers who killed her parents. This movie could do well if it’s any good, thanks to Zoe Saldana’s current appeal, but it could also vanish as quickly as it appeared.
