Buffy The Vampire Slayer Gets The Reboot Treatment
Joss Whedon’s vampire fighting heroine Buffy is getting ready to be remade. Warner Brothers has confirmed that the 1992 movie, which spawned a successful 7 season TV series, is in the process of getting a script written for it. Joss Whedon unfortunately will have nothing to do with the project.
Fans of the series will no doubt be watching for the movie with a skeptical eye, after all it’s been announced that Buffy will not be in school, and that she would be re-envisioned in a new way while keeping her “witty, tough, and sexy” characteristics. “This is a completely new reboot,” a producer told the LA Times. “Tone is extremely important and you want the audience to realize what is at stake and the peril is real, but at the same time what’s going on should be fun and inviting and keep everyone engaged. It needs to be relevant to today, too, and that is what Whit has found a way to do.”
Whether a reboot is necessary at this point is unknown, but with the popularity of vampires on the big screen at the moment it’s not surprising to hear this news. The movie will possibly be released in late 2011, or 2012.
