Award shows tend to bring out some of the more dramatic beauty looks. But for Selena Gomez, who made her triumphant return to the red carpet last night after taking a break from the spotlight, her approach to red carpet beauty was subdued and fresh. Makeup artist Hung Vanngo spun his own take on classic Hollywood glamour with a subtle brown smoky eye, peach lip and light contouring.  Gomez’s hair was tied in a low, textured ponytail with a sharp middle part. The result was beautiful, glowing skin that highlighted the singer’s best features and allowed her message of self-love and validation to take centre stage for the evening.

The young singer and actress embraced the season’s dark lip with a deep fuchsia pout. Makeup artist Melissa Hernandez left Hailee’s matte lip as the focal point, with the rest of the starlet’s makeup relatively minimalist. White eyeliner and thick, volumized lashes highlighted the singer’s hazel eyes, while her bright complexion and brushed out brows kept the look youthful and ultimately age appropriate. Hairstylist Mark Townsend completed the look with long, cascading waves that perfectly framed Steinfeld’s face.

R&B singer Tinashe parted with her usual long, sleek waves for tight, 90s inspired ringlets. Embracing her hair’s natural texture, the singer’s curls were piled into a topknot with flirty flyaways for a playful and effortless up-do.  The songstress kept her makeup relatively simple, with a romantic smoky eye in shades of pink and white, luscious lashes and lots of expertly applied highlighter.
