Montreal fashion designer Denis Gagnon is quickly becoming one of Canada’s hottest designers and is loved for his flattering, minimalistic and body conscious garments. The fashion designer says that his inspiration to create each season’s collection is “The constant search to represent modernity.”
Denis Gagnon started his life in fashion as an art director. Working with fashion designer Yso on movies, advertising and theatre, Denis had the vision to dress the world in his own fashion instead of that of another.
Since the creation of his first line, Denis Gagnon has gained the attention of fashion fans across the country. In 2004, he was awarded the Fashion Export Award for best designer in his hometown of Montreal. A retrospective of his designs will be shown at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts this fall and a documentary entitled Je m’appelle Denis Gagnon premiered this year. Despite his growing fame and praise in the fashion industry here, Denis Gagnon chooses to stick close to Montreal and Toronto and continues to show his collections in these cities each season.
His recent 2010 line marks a return to fashion after a brief absence from the Canadian fashion scene. For Spring/Summer 2010, Denis Gagnon followed modern fashion trends with a celebration of the zipper. His line mixes couture style with functional fashion in his signature leather fabrics using the popular nude shades of the season. His fall fashion line continued that trend while using leathers in new fringe and weaves to create a new look.
While Denis Gagnon’s fashions are sold at his upscale boutique and Holt Renfrew, he is said to be working on an affordable collaborative fashion line with Bedo to be released this fall and a shoe line for Aldo.
Here are some looks from the Denis Gagnon fall fashion show:
The rumours are true! H&M confirmed the big fashion news that started breaking yesterday. Lanvin will be the latest designer collaboration at H&M this fall.
Following in the footsteps of many fashion designers, including Karl Lagerfeld, Jimmy Choo and Stella McCartney, the Lanvin H&M collection will be revealed on November 2. The first images will be seen in a film on the H&M website. The clothes will then hit shelves on November 23. If you want a piece you should be waiting in line when the doors open, because we know this line isn’t going to last long in stores.
In a press release, Alber Elbaz, artistic director of Lanvin, said, “H&M approached us to collaborate, and see if we could translate the dream we created at Lanvin to a wider audience, not just a dress for less. I have said in the past that I would never do a mass-market collection, but what intrigued me was the idea of H&M going luxury rather than Lanvin going public. This has been an exceptional exercise, where two companies at opposite poles can work together because we share the same philosophy of bringing joy and beauty to men and women around the world.”
Lanvin has been one of the most exciting European fashion lines to watch over the past few years. Under Alber Elbaz’ direction, Lanvin has been on the cusp of all the hottest trends every season. It will be exciting to see how they can bring the luxurious fall trends from their line into H&M.

You may still be thinking summer style, but the world of fashion has moved on to winter. To show the styles of the upcoming season, Donna Karan’s DKNY fashion line has released images of the upcoming fall line on Facebook.
The fall DKNY fashion campaign is all about the city girl. From the hustle of a day in the city, to a walk in the park, or a night on the town, the DKNY campaign shows you that this fashion is for you.
The browns and blacks you see in the images are a good representation of what we will be seeing from every designer going into fall. The looks we saw back at the fashion shows were all dark and neutral shades.
What do you think of the new DKNY fall fashion ad campaign?
Italy might be caught in a heat wave but our fashion writers from the sundrenched region are saying the fall fashions are even hotter. Hot as in style that is.
The stores of Rome’s most fashionable street Via Dei Condotti are ready for fall with the latest designs from top Italian fashion designers waiting in the windows. So we took a look at Fendi, Gucci, Missoni, Ferragamo and Alberta Ferretti to see what fall fashion in Italy will look like.
Here is a look at what the chic Italianos will be wearing come the fall…as they say all roads lead to Rome!
The fabulous fashion shows of Paris haute couture fashion week continued today with the fashion elite seeing fashion shows from the world’s top designers. Fashion shows today were held by fashion designers Elie Saab, Jean Paul Gaultier and Valentino.
Elie Saab
Celebrity style red carpet favourite Elie Saab designed his haute couture collection this year to give his clients exactly what they wanted: an amazing array of dramatic gowns in all colours and styles. The Elie Saab fashion show was filled with luxurious gowns in reds, golds and greens to name a few of the colours featuring a number of different detailing. Intricate lace, beading and feather applications were all seen on the Elie Saab runway. His finale of a wedding gown with an eight foot train was a definite showstopper. You’ll be sure to see a number of these Elie Saab gowns on upcoming red carpets:
Jean Paul Gaultier
Jean Paul Gaultier turned up the heat with his glamorous haute couture fashion show. The show opened with a strip tease from Dita Von Teese to reveal the first look in the show a sparkling black corset and stockings. Things stayed as hot for the whole fashion show with Jean Paul Gaultier showing a collection based on sex and glamour. His iconic cone bra from Madonna’s wardrobe made an appearance on the runway alongside sheer fabrics, furs and sequins. The collection had garments inspired by the scuba suit, meaning the brightly colours outfits were made of very tight fabrics. The fashion show was a mix of the high life that will have fans wanting pieces from the collection.
Valentino
Haute couture fashion shows wrapped up for the most part with the fashion show from Valentino. The Valentino haute couture fashion show contained delicate and detailed gowns and dresses. There was a theme running through the line of sequins and flowers, but not like the Dior flowers we saw earlier. The Valentino floral gowns were more delicate and a little more wearable. For the most part these lace and tulle dresses and gowns are perfect for any red carpet (apart from a few structured looks worthy of Lady Gaga). See more photos from the Valentino haute couture fashion show here.
Wow, Miley Cyrus has come a long way from her start as a sweet Disney kid. In the last 4 years Miley went from a lovable pre-teen on Hannah Montana to 15 going on 25.
She is hosting the MMVA’s tonight in Toronto with a whole group of teen age celebs. We thought we would do a “Miley Cyrus through the ages” to show just how much her fashion looks have changed. Some have called it way too much, some think this is normal teenage self determination. Your thoughts?
