FASHION TRENDS: Girl’s Night Out

Thursday, July 29th, 2010

fashion trends girls dress jacket shoe earring jewelry

By Christie Ressel, guest blogger

With the weekend approaching, there is no better way to unwind then with a night on the town with your girlfriends! For occasions such as this, I love pairing girlie clothing, with sleeker pieces to create more of an urban feel for the night.

I’m a fan of mixing high and low price point pieces together to create fun looks that will mix and mingle with other pieces in your wardrobe.

Couldn’t resist the coral coloured dress – perfect for summer!

This outfit would be perfect for someone that has an hourglass figure or an A figure (i.e. pear shape) as it focuses on the waist. This is crucial for hourglass and A shapes – always define your waist! The fabric of the dress is beautifully draped, so it will fall nicely along the curves of the body perfectly. Delicious!

What do you think of the ensemble? Would you wear it?

Haute Tropic Dress (Modcloth) $53.99
Aldo Shoes $90.00
Big Buddha Bag $90.00
Shifting Gears Jacket $94.99
Forever 21 ring $4.80
Forever 21 Bold Catch Necklace $10.80

FASHION FIND: Artful Shoes From LuisaViaRoma

Wednesday, July 28th, 2010

luisaviaroma ankle boot fashion luisaviaroma shoe sandal fashion

Our recent trip to Italy had us visiting one of Italy’s most fashionable stores called Luisaviaroma. Established by the current owners’ grandmother (Louisa), the Florentine store has stayed on top of fashion trends for the last century and has evolved into a fashion powerhouse with the introduction of ecommerce 10 years ago. A huge bonus is the free shipping worldwide offered by the fashion website.

We liked these artful shoes, as we call them, because they remind us of modern art. These are two completely different looks for different occasions.

The first one, a colorful patchwork bootie from Y-3 would be perfect with a pair of skinny jeans and a sporty jacket, throw on your Lovequotes scarf and aviator glasses for cool urban daytime look. The second ,high heel stilettos from Nicholas Kirkwood, are definitely for day to nighttime affair. Wear in the fall with the new sock and peep toe look for maximum exposure. Going to an art gallery opening? Watch out cause your shoes just might steal the show!

FASHION TRENDS: Greek Tunic Draped Summer Dresses

Wednesday, July 28th, 2010

These astonishingly detailed dresses or tunics on ancient Greek and Roman statues might be at least two thousand years old, but as they say ‘everything old is new again.’  in the fashion world. The fashion designers of the day probably had no idea that their fashions would inspire two millennia worth of interpretation and imitation of this draped “Greek Goddess” fashion trend. If in fact imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, then these ancient fashion designers have received much praise over the years to say the least. Draped and wrap dresses are a part of nearly ever fashion collection season after season. These dresses truly are a timeless look, just check out our modern day look a likes. Complete the look with a pair of gladiator sandals and you are ready for the time machine indeed. Here are some stylish summer dresses based on fashion trends started by the Greek/Roman tunic.

Last night the hot tv show Mad Men had it’s season premiere. The show has made the early 60’s, oh so in fashion and has inspired the return to ‘retro glamour look’ all over again. As the girls drool for Don Draper and the boys drool for his clothes, Mad Men and for some mad women are making us nostalgic for the smoke and drink your heart out era while looking oh so glam. The nipped in waists, full skirts and sheath dresses have made a return to fashion for the fall and if you haven’t yet noticed men’s suits are slim and the ties even slimmer. Mad Men show didn’t invent 60’s fashion but has definitely played a role in bringing it back. FASHION TRENDS: Fall Fashion From Florence

Saturday, July 24th, 2010

Milan and Florence (or Firenze) compete fiercely for the title of fashion capital of Italy. Considering that most Italian fashion designers such as Roberto Cavalli, Salvatore Ferragamo and Emilo Pucci still either live in or come from the region, we chose Florence.

Here are some looks from the fashion street Via Tornabuoni in Florence including Giorgio Armani, Gucci and Dior:

FASHION FIND: Canvas Tote

Saturday, July 24th, 2010

canvas tote handbag

And now for something completely different in our fashion finds, here we have a casual tote with a whole lot of style punch. The tote bag called LEITMOTIV is also laminated and reversible. It reminded us of a Russian icon, but with the deities being old Hollywood movie stars.

If the wild print is too much for your style all of the time, you just need to reverse it for a new look. The other side of this tote bag is a dark green print that is more subtle.

In any case, it’s the coolest tote we’ve seen so far and at $180.00 with free shipping from one of our favorite luxury sites LuisaViaRoma it’s a pretty good deal.

SUMMER FASHION: How To Find Swimwear That Suits Your Body

Thursday, July 22nd, 2010

There is one aspect of summer fashion that no woman looks forward to year after year - finding the perfect swimwear. It can be hard to know what type of suit will best flatter your body type best. Real Style Network spoke to the owners of Melmira Bra & Swim Boutique about this very problem. Melmira specializes in finding you the perfect swimsuit for your body, so they know what flatters all body types. Here are Melmira’s tips on finding the perfect swimsuit for your body type:

Adobe Photoshop PDFAthletic (boxy shoulders, muscular legs)
• In a full piece, look for suits that have details that create definition for the waistline. Placement prints, jewelry, and surplus designs all help to bring some shape to the torso. Rounded and halter necklines can also soften strong shoulders.
• Look for detail that adds definition to the torso. Hipsters and halters add beautiful dimension and curve, and are very feminine.
• Seafolly Maui collection in Cinder. A halter and hipster creates beautiful curves on an athletic frame.

FREYA_BustyBusty
• Depending on whether you consider your bust line to be an asset or insecurity, all women appreciate looking taller and slimmer. Generally the more support provided, that is for the bust to be lifted upwards and inwards, the longer the torso will appear thereby providing a slimming effect. Pay attention to comfort, support and coverage.
• Freya by Fantasie makes cup sized swimwear, which offers the best support to the top, thus minimizing the bust line and accentuating the waist.

bikini swimwearPear Shaped
• If a woman isn’t concerned about her waist line, it’s usually her hips and thighs that she’s afraid to show off at the beach! Good news ladies, the 50’s look is back in style! A skirted bottom, provided it’s a short cute length, is a very hot look right now and a real comfort zone for the self conscious customer!
• Seafolly Goddess collection in cinder. The bandeau balances a full bottom, and as little coverage as comfortable on the bottom creates the illusion of a smaller bottom.

bikini swimwearPetite
• Smaller more dense mini prints or geometrics prove fashionable and elegant, without the body disappearing beneath. Plunging necklines and halters lengthen the body, creating the illusion of height. Be careful not to overwhelm your body.
• Seafolly Capri collection. The stripes, moulding, and tie-sides add shape, while the thin strap and small stripes are in balance with a petite frame.

bathing suit swimwearThe perfect 10 (Well-proportioned)
• Choose a variety of styles and colours, and don’t just stick to bikinis! Full pieces are often more sexy than a bikini, especially with deep plunging necklines and cut outs. Have fun with colours and prints, keeping in mind that most Canadians buy too much black. Once you get to the beach you’ll find yourself wishing you were celebrating the vibrant colours of summer.
• Shan Jasmina collection. A cut-out celebrates the female form, but allows for very little forgiveness. A perfectly balanced woman who is very confident looks incredible in this style.

Get all of the above looks at Melmira Bra & Swim Boutique in Toronto.
