FASHION DESIGNER: Michael Kors Profile

Tuesday, December 29th, 2009

Michael KorsWell known for his woman’s shoes and bags collections, Michael Kors is the epitome of the American sportswear style.

For almost 30 years, Michael Kors has been in the forefront of fashion turning heads with his sleek, sophisticated clothing. They have stuck by their mission statement: in producing polished, sleek, sophisticated American sportswear with a jet-set attitude. Whether Aspen, Palm Beach or Capri, our mission is to bring our vision of a jet-set, luxury lifestyle to women and men around the globe.

The branded stores, which have opened in many upscale malls across North America since 2005, help to promote the brand and bring the clean lines and the versatility of the Michael Kors collections first and forefront to the public.

Real Style loves how the price ranges make it affordable to get the look. In the stores, they have gorgeous embossed python gladiator pumps, which retail for approximately $160.00 displayed near the $3,000.00 real python bag, both had almost the identical coloring of the “skin.” Very smart, because it brings the dream a little bit closer and lets us have the look for less. It also allows the shopper to start building a collection of Michael Kors pieces one at a time.

As the look is very classic, you can easily add pieces to the collection without having to start off with a whole new look each season. As a household name thanks to his seat as a judge on Project Runway, while other labels are failing due to the economy Michael Kors has flourished. He believes this is due to the fact that his clothes are “seasonless.” The pieces in the Michael Kors 2009 Resort Collection are fashionable including one-shouldered and sheath dresses, while still being wearable for the Real Style woman.

Michael Kors’ next project is a beauty line collaboration with Estee Lauder.

FASHION NEWS: Jimmy Choo’s Accessories And Clothes For H&M

Sunday, October 25th, 2009
Jimmy Choo for H&M stores shoes and accessories.JPG

Here is a first look at what some of the accessories such as shoes, boots and bags designed by Jimmy Choo for H&M will look like. As you can see above they are up to the minute in the top fashion looks right now: over the knee leather boots, animal prints, booties.

As we reported earlier in the Canada Style shopping review, H&M was a great place for trendy, inexpensive clothing but the accessories needed improvement. This new high fashion and better quality accessory line should do wonders in improving that end of the business for the retailer. It’s also a great potential new source for affordable designer shoes and bags.

When the announcement came out this summer about the latest H&M designer collaboration, this time with Jimmy Choo to design the accessory line, excitement swept through the ranks of the value conscious fashionistas. With a typical price point of over $700.00 for shoes in the regular Jimmy Choo line, the anticipation has been growing to see what the goods will actually look like come November 14, when the line is scheduled to debut in over 200 H&M stores. Judging from above,it looks really good. The accessory line will feature real leather in the shoes and bags AND the Jimmy Choo for H&M collection will also feature apparel.

This is a first for Jimmy Choo, as the fashion brand does not feature clothing in their own line.

Tamara Mellon, the Founder and President of the design brand said:

“It was H&M’s idea to [do clothes], and as soon as they said it, I really wanted to do it,” said Mellon, who said she has no imminent plans to launch ready-to-wear under the Jimmy Choo umbrella, but added: “Never say never.”

Here are some more looks of the items via Daily Mail in the UK. The prices are in British pounds. Click here to get the conversion into Canadian and U.S. dollars.

JESSICA SIMPSON FIGHTS BACK WITH SHOES AND BAGS!

Monday, May 4th, 2009

jessica simpson.jpgOnly 28 years old, this entertainer has certainly withered more than her share of criticism.

From the embarassing ” chicken of the sea” episode on the “Newly Weds: Nick and Jessica” reality show, when still married to Nick Lache. To the latest debacle of pictures of her on a singing tour, wearing ‘mom jeans’ and looking, well let’s say less then slender.

What many people do not realize and according to this  Vogue article , is that this young woman is actually becoming a celebrity line fashion brand powerhouse, with her own line of shoes, clothes and lingerie.

“”The Jessica Simpson Collection is a $400 million business,” she said. “My mom and I are creative directors. We have hundreds of people working, but nothing gets by us. It’s adorable and it’s affordable.

What’s amazing right now, during this recession, is that, somehow, the business keeps growing.”

To boot, the now slender Jessica is a total WOW in these gorgeous pictures , shot by the famous Mario Testino.

So I say, Good for you Jessica ! To see Jessica Simpson’s line of shoes, bags and accessories click here .

THE PURSE

Tuesday, March 10th, 2009

People always ask me, if you had to have just one purse what would it be?

Washed denim by LV? The classic Chanel bag? Black Hermes with gold buckle?

And they are surprised when I tell them: go for the best your money will buy you in either a crocodile or python in black. Labels are great, but if it means you will save thousands with a lesser label or no label and a stunning bag, go for that.

Why?

Because it’s timeless. A well maintained croc or python will last you decades and a classic shape will not go out of style.

One of my favorite purchases was a doctor bag style black alligator bag. I purchased it for 250 euros ($400) at the Paris flea market about 5 years ago. An identical bag here costs between $3 to $5, 000. This bag is my favorite not only because it’s gorgeous and timeless but because I feel like a won the purse lottery every time I wear it and tell the story of my wonderful find!
