  TIFF 2018
The 2018 edition of
the Toronto International Film Festival is about to get under way, and like usual the 10-day festival is packed with possible award-winning films. Here are the the films you simply don’t want to miss.
A STAR IS BORN
Bradley Cooper is the latest actor to throw his hat into the directing field, and for his debut film he’s chosen to remake a classic. A Star is Born already has

three versions — 1937, 1954 and 1976 — and Cooper’s follows a similar plot line. In the film, he plays a washed- up singer who becomes a mentor (and eventually
lover) to an up-and- coming young star, this time played by Lady Gaga.
FIRST MAN
Ryan Gosling plays Neil Armstrong in this film that looks at the life of the first man to walk on
the moon. Gosling came close to winning his first Oscar with director Damien Chazelle for 2016’s La
La Land (which
premiered at TIFF two years ago), so it only makes sense that he’d take a run at the coveted statue once again with him.
THE DEATH AND LIFE OF JOHN F. DONOVAN Canadian wunderkind Xavier Dolan’s latest film has been a long time
in the making, and will finally premiere at this year’s TIFF. With an all- star cast that includes Natalie Portman, Bella Thorne, Kit Harington, Sarah Gadon, Kathy Bates and more, Dolan’s film follows the story of a young actor reminiscing about the correspondence he
shared with an American TV star who died 10 years previously.
THE SISTERS BROTHERS
Canadian author Patrick deWitt’s dark comedy/ Western is being given the theatrical treatment in this film starring Joaquin Phoenix, John C. Reilly and Jake Gyllenhaal. It follows the story of two brothers sent to kill a prospector accused of stealing from a tyrannical crime boss.
THE FRONT RUNNER
It’s no secret that director Jason Reitman loves premiering his films at TIFF. For his latest, he delves into the true story of American Senator Gary Hart’s 1988 presidential campaign, and the scandalous love affair that ruins it all. Hugh Jackman and Vera Farmiga star.
