 TV
KIDDING
Jim Carrey returns to television on September 9 in this new Showtime series. In it, he plays an icon of children’s television, who runs a multimillion-dollar branding empire. Unfortunately, when his family life starts to fall apart, he slowly starts to lose his sanity as well. This drama/comedy reunites Carrey with director Michel Gondry, who directed the star in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.
MANIFEST
What would you do if you took a flight,
only to discover that you’d lost five years without realizing it when you landed? That’s the premise of this new NBC series from producers Robert Zemeckis (director of Forrest Gump) and Jack Rapke (producer of Cast Away), which is sure to keep audiences on edge as the mystery slowly unfolds.
MURPHY BROWN
With all the TV reboots happening lately, it’s hard to keep track. For this
TV reboot, Candice Bergen returns to the hit 1990s CBS TV show about a star reporter on a news show. The original series lasted for 10 seasons,
and was loved by fans and critics alike. The show was one of the first feminist workplace comedies on TV, so it will be interesting to see Murphy’s take on the business today, and how she handles it all.
MANIAC
Emma Stone and Jonah Hill reunite for the
first time since 2007’s Superbad in this Netflix series about an institutionalized man (Hill) who gets to live a fantasy life in his dreams after a pharmaceutical trial goes awry. It’s based on a Norwegian show of the same name and looks to be as trippy as it sounds. Emma Stone plays a fellow clinical trial patient.
