Prepare yourself to be scared. Toronto’s majestic castle,
Casa Loma, is once again transforming itself into a
haunted house for the month of October. As you take the 2-km self-guided tour through the facilities, including areas never before opened to the public, you will discover classic horror figures, from Dracula to the Phantom of the Opera, waiting for you. They are expertly brought to life by over 70 actors, and take place in recreations of their famous sets.
UP + DOWNTOWN
OKTOBERFEST
This relatively new festival takes place in 11 venues across downtown Edmonton, over the course of three days. It features performances by independent musicians, of all genres and celebrates visual arts.
October 23 – 28, Wolfville, Kentville and Kings County
The eighth installment of the annual Nova Scotia festival featuring culinary films, food and drink should be the biggest one yet.
This year’s festivities are kicked
off by former White House chef
to the Obamas, Sam Kass, who will be bringing his favourite food film of all time, Jiro Dreams of Sushi. Besides the films, you can expect culinary delights crafted by internationally renowned chefs,
as well as experiential tours, industry workshops and, of course, tastings.
October 5 – 13, Kitchener
The 50th anniversary of the Kitchener-Waterloo Oktoberfest takes place this fall, and this year there are 40 family and cultural events to go along with the annual Thanksgiving Day Parade. Come taste the German food and beer, and listen to music across the city by both local and international bands. Over, 700,000 visitors are expected to attend the nine- day festival.
