LiNDSeY MoRGAN’S voiCe oN THe PHoNe has a strange quality—managing to sound both youthful and bubbly yet suave and self-assured at the same time. Perhaps this is a reflection of where the Houston-raised and Los Angeles-based actress is in life at this point. Morgan, who just celebrated her 28th birthday at the end of February, is still a young woman by any standard. However, in Hollywood terms, she is a seasoned star who has burned up the The 100 screen since the show’s debut in 2014.
At the time of filming Season 1 in 2013, Morgan was just 22 years old. Today, she is at the other side of her twenties and best known for playing the ge- nius Raven Reyes on the hit CW sci-fi series, a char- acter that she describes as “a total badass.” From re- flecting on the early seasons of the show to awaiting the Season 4 premiere on April 24, it has been quite the journey for Morgan.
“The character of Raven Reyes is one of a kind to me. She is a prodigy, a mechanical space engineer. She becomes disabled within the seasons, so she is paralyzed in one of her legs. it’s such a creative challenge, and also stimulating,” the rising actress tells us.
As the daughter of a Mexican mother and an irish father, Morgan is also a proud woman of col-
our in a starring role. This is a fact that has filled her with pride, especially since portraying disabled Latina engineer Raven allows her to fight negative stereotypes. “There’s been a stereotype for Latinos that they are uneducated, the construction worker or maid. i can resonate with being a Latina playing a woman of colour, but i can’t with disabilities. So being able to play her has taught me so much about people with disabilities. They need representation and inclusion in the media, in positive ways,” Mor- gan says.
Like anyone who has been at one job since their formative years, our April 2018 cover girl has come of age in her work environment. “i have learned so much and i grew up on the show. When i watch past seasons, i feel like i can see where i am in my life in my mid-20s through it,” she says. it’s no surprise, then, that away from the spotlight, the brunette beauty has transformed from girl next door to lead- ing lady in her own right. of course, it hasn’t been all about finding fame, as the star’s early days in the industry were largely about self-discovery.
“Being in the spotlight all of a sudden, you feel pressure to look a certain way and be a certain way. I lost confidence for a while, because all of a sud- den i felt like i had all these eyes on me. i didn’t
