The rumours are true! H&M confirmed the big fashion news that started breaking yesterday. Lanvin will be the latest designer collaboration at H&M this fall.
Following in the footsteps of many fashion designers, including Karl Lagerfeld, Jimmy Choo and Stella McCartney, the Lanvin H&M collection will be revealed on November 2. The first images will be seen in a film on the H&M website. The clothes will then hit shelves on November 23. If you want a piece you should be waiting in line when the doors open, because we know this line isn’t going to last long in stores.
In a press release, Alber Elbaz, artistic director of Lanvin, said, “H&M approached us to collaborate, and see if we could translate the dream we created at Lanvin to a wider audience, not just a dress for less. I have said in the past that I would never do a mass-market collection, but what intrigued me was the idea of H&M going luxury rather than Lanvin going public. This has been an exceptional exercise, where two companies at opposite poles can work together because we share the same philosophy of bringing joy and beauty to men and women around the world.”
Lanvin has been one of the most exciting European fashion lines to watch over the past few years. Under Alber Elbaz’ direction, Lanvin has been on the cusp of all the hottest trends every season. It will be exciting to see how they can bring the luxurious fall trends from their line into H&M.

Well frankly we’re surprised it has taken Britney Spears this long. Yes, we do have a new celebrity designer going to market. Yes, it is Britney Spears. Britney Spears and Candie’s announced a new collaboration to get fashion designed by Britney into stores.
Britney Spears has been the face of the Candie’s ads for three years, but now she is stepping behind the scene to create a limited edition line. Britney announced the line on Twitter late last week saying: At my photo shoot for the limited edition collection I designed for Candie’s! I think you guys will love it!!! – Brit.
The Britney Spears for Candie’s line will feature juniors clothing and accessories. The line will go on sale at Kohl’s in July. Prices are said to range from $24 to $58.
Britney joins a long list of other celebrity designers including Nicole Richie, Victoria Beckham and Jessica Simpson. Real Style Network told you about those designers here, here and here.
Fashion’s Night Out is not only a shopping extravaganza now, but starting soon it will also feature a clothing line. The brainchild of Anna Wintour, she of the head honchess of Vogue and other creative fashion minds, the event is meant to stimulate consumer spend.
To further celebrate the night of shopping, Fashion’s Night Out is launching a small casual clothing line to be sold in stores starting in August. The clothing line will include long and short sleeved t-shirts, tank tops and a unisex hoodie. Prices will range from $20 to $60. Half of the money raised from the sales of the shirts is to go to the New York City AIDS Fund.
There is no word yet on where these official Fashion’s Night Out shirts will be sold. Retailers can currently apply to sell the shirts online, so they will probably be sold at any store that is participating in the Fashion’s Night Out event.
Fashion’s Night Out happens on September 10th, 2010. The majority of the action is going to happen in NYC, but you can be sure that based on the buzz generated last year by the event lots of other American and Canadian cities will try to get their own fashion night out going as well. Watch this space for more details as the date approaches.
Real Style Network told you about this fashion news before when Madonna announced that she was launching a junior clothing line at Macy’s called Material Girl. What’s making a fashion news update on the story is that Madonna now reveals this clothing line is not only a collaboration between the singer and her 13 teen year old daughter Lourdes Leon, but that without Lourdes she wouldn’t even have done the line.
Madonna said Lourdes got a strong sense of design from family friend fashion designer Stella McCartney. Madonna also said that without Lourdes (who she calls Lola) she wouldn’t be making the fashion line and it has changed the way she sees her daughter. Madonna said: If Lola wasn’t so completely involved in the line, designing, consulting, whatever you want to call it, I wouldn’t do it. Really she does most of the work, honestly… I see her more as a creative person, as an artist and less as my daughter as we are working, and then every once and a while I remembered she is my daughter.
The line has an 80’s inspiration that is taken from both Madonna and Lourdes’ own fashion sense (like mother, like daughter so it seems). The collection will include jeans, shoes, fingerless gloves, necklaces and other accessories.
The Material Girl clothing line will be available in Macy’s in September.
American designer Rachel Roy has launched her collection in Canada, exclusively at The Bay and just in time for spring. Rachel Roy was in Toronto last night to celebrate the cross-country launch of her three collections in Canada. Rachel is a favorite of Michelle Obama, Kate Hudson and Eva Mendes. Her styles are popular because her looks are for the modern, sophisticated woman and go from day to night very easily.
The Bay will be selling all of Rachel Roy’s lines. The high end, Rachel Roy New York (her original collection) will be sold only at the Queen Street location in Toronto in “The Room.” Prices range from $995 to $1595. The midline, Rachel Roy Signature is the designer’s new “gold-range collection.” It is similar to the original line, but with a younger feel and lower price point. Rachel Roy Signature will be available in 18 Bay stores across the country. Prices for Rachel Roy Signature range from $225 to $775.
Finally, Rachel – Rachel Roy is her new affordable line. The Rachel – Rachel Roy collection includes clothing, footwear, handbags and jewelry at accessible price points. This line will also be available at 18 select Bay stores across Canada. The initial launch will include the sportswear, footwear and handbags. Prices range from $18 to $299.
You can see all of the Rachel Roy collections on her website here, but note that only select items will be coming to The Bay stores.
Fashion designer Fred Perry and troubled celebrity Amy Winehouse are collaborating on a fashion line inspired by Amy Winehouse’s style. Vogue UK reports the collection will include twinsets, skinny pencil skirts, capri pants, mini dresses, and polo shirts. He says Amy Winehouse was very involved in picking the fabrics, colours and styles. The Amy Winehouse/Fred Perry collection will be available at Fred Perry stores in October. Let’s hope the singer ,who does have a unique, quirky style manages to stay healthy enough to enjoy the fruition of the collaboration.
Madonna caused a big buzz in the fashion world this week by confirming that she has closed a deal to produce clothing lines. The pop icon has partnered with a brand management firm called MG Icon LLC to form a joint venture . The new company will bring multiple fashion-related projects to retail stores across America and around the world. The first fashion line called “Material Girl”, has Madonna teaming up with her daughter Lourdes to produce, will be a juniors line available in August. The juniors line will launch in 200 stores in time for back-to-school shopping. Prices will range from $12 to $40. Rumour is that an eyewear line will be next for Madonna’s new fashion brand. Madonna has been thinking of getting involved in fashion in a big way for a long time and is rather late getting in on the ‘celebrity fashion designer wagon train’. Jessica Simpson who has been at it for a few years , now owns a business reportedly worth over 500 million dollars!
Heatherette designer Richie Rich is creating a new line called Tabloid Hero. Richie Rich told the New York Post we will see it first on his muse Pamela Anderson. Usually Pamela Anderson comes out wearing very little clothing on the runway for his Richie Rich collection, so this should be entertaining. Richie Rich also says he has also talked to Kim Kardashian about creating an infomercial together for the new Tabloid Hero line. Pam and Kim on the runway? Definitely will get publicity.
The Kardashian sisters are teaming up with BeBe to create their own clothing line. Kim, Khloe and Kourtney do have great style so it was only a matter of time. Kim says on her blog: This is honestly a dream come true! We have always loved fashion and have wanted to design for such a long time and now we finally are! I love Bebe and wear their clothes all the time so I cant wait for our collections to come out in the spring!
Kanye West is facing the music. His clothing line, Pastelle, has been shut down before it even started. No reasons have been given as to why the clothes will never be sold. Erm, we can take a good guess that it has something to do with his boorish behaviour during the VMA’s. This work has been in plans for three years but alas like the cancelled concert tour with lady GAGA, it has fallen apart.
Cute little Disney star Selena Gomez is now a “fashion designer”. The 17 year old teamed up with Tony Melillo, former Generra designer to create Dream Out Loud by Serena Gomez. She calls the line pretty, feminine and bohemian. They are currently looking for an exclusive partner to sell the clothes. Can’t wait for The Gosselin kids to start theirs…or maybe the “8 can wait” another 15 years!
Gossip Girl style is probably just as, if not more popular than the show itself. Apparently everyone wants to dress like a young NY upper east side girl. In a true life imitates art style, fashion designer Anna Sui has even created the Gossip Girl clothing line (available at Target) so you can dress like your favourite character. Of course if you want to Get the Look without leaving home, CanadaStyle shows you how to do it with easy online shopping.
