Real Style Network is delighted to have fashion designer Tory Burch interpret today’s top fashion trends for our readers in our exclusive Designer Picks series. Tory Burch is, of course, one of the most successful new American fashion designers. Her Tory Burch clothing, accessory and children’s wear lines are sold in over 450 stores worldwide and 22 free standing Tory Burch boutiques. In the Designer Picks series, Tory Burch speaks about the essential pieces of clothing and accessories that all women should have in their wardrobe. Take a look:
Real Style Network: In your opinion, what is the hottest fashion trend right now and going into the fall and why?
TORY BURCH: I think the mix of textures, print and color is so modern. Our fall collection is based around the idea of playing a utilitarian edge against sequins or something feminine.

Real Style Network: What are the essential pieces of clothing you would recommend for women to have in their wardrobe?
TORY BURCH: Women should always follow what looks good on them no matter what trends dictate. There are, however, a few universal looks that women can personalize.
1. A great dress that you can wear from season to season, day to evening.
2. A pair of jeans that fit you perfectly. We’re launching a full denim collection for fall 2010.
3. A jacket or blazer. It’s the ultimate layering piece and you can find on that fits your personality—loose, tailored, etc.
4. A trench–no matter what you’re wearing or what your style is, a classic trench always looks chic.

Real Style Network: What are your favorite accessories and why?
TORY BURCH: I love bold jewelry. A great cuff, necklace or ring can elevate and transform your entire look. It doesn’t have to be expensive either. It just needs to be something that you love.

You can purchase the Tory Burch fashions seen above on her website here, at any of her boutiques and at Sak’s Fifth Avenue, Neiman Marcus and Bloomingdale’s.

Canadian fashion designer Jessica Biffi may have lost the big prize on Project Runway Canada, but ‘won’ big in real life by getting valuable experience working with Holt Renfrew, Winners and Penningtons. As Real Style Network wrote previously her designs are flying off of the shelves. Her fame is growing as the fashion designer was recently interviewed on Entertainment Tonight Canada. We are pleased to present Jessica Biffi in our Designer Picks series. Jessica Biffi has taken hold of a new market designing a fashionable plus size clothing line. Jessica Biffi incorporates the hottest fashion trends into her clothes no matter what size she is designing for. Jessica gave us some versatile designer picks that you will be able to incorporate into your existing wardrobe easily for a seasonal fashion update regardless of age or size.

Real Style Network: The Hottest Fashion Trend for Spring 2010 is?
Jessica Biffi: Bright colour blocking! Fun, fresh colours that pull you out of the blah winter.
Real Style Network: Three things every woman should have in her wardrobe for spring are?
Jessica Biffi: 1) A great pair of leggings! They are a great layering piece under a shorter dress or with a fantastic tunic.
2) A dress that moves from day to night. There’s nothing better than a great dress that you put on in the morning with a sweet flat, then put on some accessories, heels and jazz up your makeup, for a night out!
3) GOLD! The warmth and depth that gold has is amazing in spring/summer. Wear it in a shoe, a bag or an accessory.
Real Style Network: The must-have accessory is?
Jessica Biffi: The statement earring. Large and in charge! Have fun with size and colour – but a conversation starting earring is always a winner.
Find Jessica Biffi’s new plus size clothing line in Addition Elle, MXM and Pennington’s stores across Canada or online.

Real Style Network is very proud to work with some of the top fashion designers in the world. In this Real Style Network’s exclusive feature, we asked the super hot Smythe’s fashion designers Christie Smythe and Andrea Lenczer, what some of the top trends for spring 2010 are. Take a look at their answers below.
1. Hottest fashion trend for Spring 2010 is?
Surplus, surplus, surplus. Jackets, shirts, cargo pants, shorts and mini skirts in army green or khaki. Combat boots look amazing for pre-spring season too.
2. Three things every woman should have in her wardrobe for spring?
a. A trench coat. You can invest in an updated silhouette or add a wide grommeted belt to your existing trench.
b. Something metallic. Add a little shine to your distressed t-shirt and jeans. Metallics are best worn in a casual manner… can get too high school prom when you dress it up.
c. Animal Print. This must be done carefully to avoid looking Siegfried and Roy. One and only one animal print at a time. Minimal accessories are best.
3. The must have accessory is?
A Brunswick & Co Doctor’s Bag. Available at Augustina this spring.
Find Smythe at Bloomingdales and Saks and better quality boutiques. Make sure to visit their website for specific locations.

“What to Wear – Editor and Designers Recommend” is a Real Style exclusive which provides a style guide for the must-haves of the seasons with Editor’s picks and recommendations from top Canadian Fashion Designers. Our fall series had contributions from Pink Tartan, Greta Constantine, Izzy Camilleri, Jaoffer Caoc. For the Holiday Season What To Wear, Real Style has asked these top designers: Smythe, Jay Godfrey and Andy The-Anh for their expert opinion and fashion advice. Last week the designer recommended their must-have holiday outfits for readers.
Here are the fashion designer recommendations for the holiday season’s must-have shoes, accessories and outerwear:
Smythe: A standout shoe, boot, or bootie are the best way to make an existing dress or outfit current. Don’t bother buying a new outfit this season. Buy new footwear and make it edgy and tough. Be bold in this department. Look at Nicholas Kirkwood for inspiration. Another accessory that will work with a high-heeled bootie are lace or patterned tights. A jacket with a statement shoulder! This can be worn over a dress or with a skirt/evening shorts and, of course, with any pant.

Jay Godfrey: Jimmy Choo for H&M… high fashion at an affordable price, a J. Crew’s crystal-and-pearl Libretto necklace, and a Moncler Moto Puffer jacket with fur hood.

Andy The-Anh: Miu Miu fur shoes and black pearls.

Here are the Editor’s picks for holiday shoes, accessories and outerwear:
Accessories are the fastest way to update your outfit for the holiday season. As we wrote before, this year has been all about shimmer and shine with daytime sequins, bejeweled embellishments and bold jewelry. I have chosen the Pepper Boot from Karmaloop ($290.00), Max Azaria’s Two Tone Sequined Clutch ($128.00) and the Jeweled Satin Evening Clutch ($149.00) from Forzieri as the choices for footwear and handbags to be the standout accessories for the Holiday Party season. I also loved the classical Greek key design of the Greca Design 14k Yellow Gold Band Ring ($178.00) from Forzieri. You can easily pair the above accessories with your little black dress and look like you have a brand new outfit.
Shop Andy The-Anh’s boutiques and other fine retailers across Canada and the U.S.You will find Smythe and Jay Godfrey at Bloomingdales and Saks and better quality boutiques. Make sure to visit the individual web site for specific locations.

Here are the fashion designer recommendations for the holiday season’s must-have outfit:
Smythe: Something in your closet that you can alter to make it current. Buy some shoulder pads and put them under a dress and belt it. Take your old slouchy dress pants and crop them, taper at the shin and roll them to create a modern pant to be worn with a high-heeled moto boot. Cut the neck off a t-shirt so it falls off your shoulder and add a sequined scarf to dress it up. Make your own sequined or beaded scarf buy buying some beautiful fabric and cutting a long narrow strip for holiday. Shorts with patterned tights are also an amazing holiday outfit.
Jay Godfrey: My fuchsia PIXIE dress. With exaggerated shoulders and black waistband the dress is both chic yet sexy with the exposed back zipper.
Andy The-Anh: I recommend: A Black Tuxedo
