The runways of Milan heated up yesterday as more of the top names in fashion showed why they are the masters of their craft.
DSquared
Canada’s own DSquared began the day with a racy fashion show. This fashion duo are known for their exciting shows, so it should be no surprise the show started with a model being lowered to the runway in a cage where she was met by male models wearing only gold briefs. DSquared’s Fall/Winter 2010 collection continued in that fashion. Fur lined coats were worn with nothing but red lingerie. Models wore little black dresses with thigh-high red boots and red latex gloves. The line was all black and red with accessories made out of bone. They finished off the show with a red and black feathered strapless dress.
The movie The Matrix inspired the DSquared line. WWD said when you stripped away the thematic runway show there were some nice pieces including a leather and wool trench, tailored jackets and 40’s style dresses.
Emporio Armani
Emporio Armani, the more youthful of the Armani lines, showed a well-tailored feminine line at Milan Fashion Week. Emporio Armani continued the fur trend with coats of all cuts. Draped and airy skirts were a popular look on the runway. On the flip side, there were also tailored suits and sharp leather jackets. The big sunglasses and earrings gave the line a retro feel. The hemlines were shorter than what we saw on the runways of New York. The colours were similar with black, grey and off-white.
Flare Canada’s editor Lisa Tant said on Twitter: Emporio Armani was what the maestro does best – soft suitings, petal details, flawless accessories and a palette of pale grey.
Versace
Versace started their show with the noise of a revving motorcycle, preparing everyone for what they were about to see. The Versace line was a glamorous rocker collection. Moto-cross jackets, metallic mini skirts, and skintight leather outfits were seen on the runway. Tight evening wear gowns came in bright neon colours with exposed zippers and cutouts. To finish the show a mirrored container rose up from the floor holding all of the models giving everyone in the room a view of the eye popping looks.
Elle’s Joe Zee described the line on Twitter as “Sex And The Runway: Motorcross babes @versace with knee-padded pants, zippered jkts & coats and asymmetrical cutouts on gowns and boots.”

Milan Fashion Week started yesterday with some of the biggest names in fashion. Fendi, Prada and Dolce & Gabbana’s casual line D & G all showed on Milan’s esteemed runways.
Real Style Network has been following our favourite fashion editors Elle’s Joe Zee and Flare Canada’s Lisa Tant comments from Milan Fashion Week. Here’s what they had to say about D&G, Fendi and Prada:
About D & G:mrjoezee – Ski bunnies at D&G with a techno edge. Glitter goggles! Fur bloomers! Nordic knits! And the hairiest Mukluks this side of Aspen!
mrjoezee – Thank God there’s something for GaGa to wear now when she skis
LisaTant – Ski bunnies at D&G. Nordic patterned body suits, fur bloomers & leg warmers. Metallic ski goggles. Super chic apres ski - very cute. Love!
On Fendi:
LisaTant – Bit of an 80s moment at Fendi – A-line shapes, full sleeves, cinched waists, calf-length skirts and autumnal shades of paprika, navy, forest
mrjoezee – Loved Fendi’s chic elegance: a little 40s/50s, full volume on coats & circle skirts; patchwork fur vests, poets blouses; daring blk dresses
mrjoezee – Karl’s solution for winter? A rubber-toed, loose-fitting Fendi ankle boot.
And Finally About Prada:
mrjoezee – Prada was such a beautiful celebration of the body in a subtle, quiet way. Small waists, darted seaming, peaked busoms. And Lara & Doutzen!
mrjoezee – Prada shoe trend alert: Heavy knit heathered, cable-knit socks worn with pointy toe pump and strappy shoes. (DIY: get it from LLBean now!)
mrjoezee – Prada: Full dresses with a tiny waist (think I Love Lucy) in painted windowpane prints, boxy jkts & full skirts in PVC or heavy cable knits.
LisaTant – Gorgeous Prada show – loved the grown up 50s flair. Rich prints, great knits, loved the accessories and cable knit details.
LisaTant – Prada details – cable front knee socks, patent everywhere: handbags, pointy toe stilettos (no platforms) and high heel loafers.
LisaTant – If January Jones was playing Betty Draper today, she would wear Prada this fall. Very ladylike look with A-line skirts, knit suits.
It’s official retro is in for Fall, with elements of the 40’s , 50’s and early 60’s. Elegant and lady like women’s attire is the biggest emerging trend . This has consistently been a sub theme at the New York and London Fashion Week shows and is continuing in the usually more dramatic Milan fashion week shows. Real Style will keep bringing you the latest updates from Milan Fashion Week. In the meantime brush up on your “Mad Men” fashions, hair, makeup everything…this is going to be super hot!

The Oscar’s are just as much about the fashion as they are the films. Designers fight to get their most luxurious gowns on the hottest celebrities on the red carpet. The Academy knows that. Today they revealed the “Oscar Designer Challenge 2010” where you can vote on one of the gowns.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences chose nine emerging designers to create gowns for the annual contest. BBC News reports the winning designer will be announced live during the Oscar pre-show. The model delivering the Oscar statues on stage during the award ceremony will wear their dress.
The nominated designers are all new designers who will surely make their mark if they win. The designers are: Ari Sheuhmelian, Elda de la Rosa, Fernanda Carneiro, Ivy Higa, Kelsey Zimba, Oday Shakar, Oliver Tolentino, Phong Hong and Rania Salibi. The red carpet gowns include a number of popular trends we have been seeing this year. There is a sparkling silver gown, a few nudes, many asymmetric, one shoulder and strapless tops.

Penelope Cruz is known for her Spanish style and curves. At a recent art gallery opening Penelope looked modern and elegant in her long white trench over a grey one-shoulder Calvin Klein dress. She has accessorized her look with just a few pieces of smaller jewelry, a hand held clutch and a pair of simple grey pumps. This simple, sophisticated style can work for any event. Here is how to get Penelope Cruz’s elegant look:
1. Amaze the crowd when your coat comes off in this Side Shine Dress ($98.00) designed by the Kardashian sisters for Bebe. The leatherette cap sleeve and side panel contrasts the comfortable grey jersey knit. This is a new, interesting version of the one-shoulder dress trend.
3. Get our Long Line Jacket ($309.00) to stay warm this spring. This coat is made of a crepe de chine fabric, is fully lined and has hidden closures. It brings a touch of style to any outfit. It will last for many seasons to come.
4. Add even more sparkle with this Joomi NYC Gold Pretty Bijoux Ring ($50.00). The Swarovski crystals will sparkle against the antique brass setting of this beautiful ring.
5. Carry this La Regale Minaudier ($57.60). This satin case clutch fits right in the palm of your hand and is big enough to hold anything you need for the evening.
6. Finish the look with a pair of Trinitie Pumps in Grey ($99.95). These very high heels come in a suede or patent finish in 11 different colours. You can match every outfit you own.
From New York to London, fashion weeks around the world continue. This week the stage was set in London to show some of fashion’s iconic names.
Vivienne Westwood
Vivienne Westwood’s Red Label catwalk show is one of the highlights for London Fashion Week this season.
The collection paired unique and beautifully tailored pieces together when they didn’t seem to belong. Westwood’s line included printed skirts and shaggy jackets in the same edgy outfits. Tailored coats of all lengths and printed leggings completed the looks. The colours of the Vivienne Westwood line included pink, red, black, blue and purple. Westwood’s Red Label show followed the trend of oversized and draped looks that we saw during New York Fashion Week.
Vivienne Westwood used her clothes to talk about things that are really important to her. Many of the shirts on the catwalk featured messages about climate change on them. The Telegraph reports Vivienne Westwood also included the Fashion For Relief t-shirt in her Red Label show.

Burberry
Burberry’s London Fashion Week show was highly anticipated because it was the world’s first 3D fashion show. Burberry also had a Twitter takeover. The fashion line invited two members of the press to update the Burberry twitter during the show. The Telegraph said this season’s show was a salute to the British military. The collection included many styles of military jackets (trench coats, flying jackets and naval jackets) and lots of khaki shades. The line included luxurious fur coats, lace, satin, tight dresses and over the knee boots. The New York Times called the line “young, easy and desirable.”
