Crème de la Mer is one of the must have beauty products of all time. With a new beauty product launch this month, La Mer may have another instant classic on their hands.
La Mer just released their Eye Balm Instense cream claiming to get rid of those dark puffy eyes. With a track record like La Mer’s, we can wait to see what it can do for our eyes during TIFF or Toronto Fashion Week when we are out all night and up again early in the morning.
The La Mer Eye Balm is made with the same secret seaweed mixture base as their tried and true creams. For this cream they have added what they are calling Smart Sea Gel from way in the depths of the ocean. They say this deep sea algae and seaweed acts different because it doesn’t see light. La Mer mixes all of these natural ingredients together to give you a cream they say will de-puff, moisturize and brighten your dark eyes.
At $145.00. per small jar, it’s one of the priciest eye products on the market…but at the same time if it works then for some it may be well worth the money.
We told you earlier this year that Payless Shoes was launching a new makeup and beauty lines. Since we are getting ever closer to the release date the shoe and accessories store is giving more hints as to what we can expect.

At Real Style Network’s beauty blog, we don’t only get reviews from our Beauty Guinea Pig, we also love recommendations from you!
A friend recommended we at the beauty blog tell all of our readers about the Olay Regenerist UV Defense Regenerating Lotion. This daily moisturizer is said to fight the signs of aging while protecting your skin from rays.
Her verdict: “I started using the Olay Lotion to smooth out my hands and arms actually. It’s one of the best moisturizers I’ve used to keep my hands smooth after a hard day of work. Because it also has an SPF 15 in it, I have started using the Olay moisturizer on my neck too. So many people forget to put sunscreen on their neck. With this beauty product I am protecting my skin and keeping it smooth.”

We usually spend all of our time talking about our favourite girly products on the beauty blog, but we know there are a few men out there taking a peak to see what is available to make them beautiful too. Or at least some girls who want their man to look his best, even if he doesn’t care.
Hair care company Aveda announced the launch of a new line of men’s shaving products this week. WWD reports the new Pure-Formance Shave Cream and Dual-Action Aftershave beauty products will be in stores next month.
Aveda says their shaving products will be both functional and include luxury scents, while many other products have one or the other. They say the products were developed specifically for men since their skin is different than womens.
Aveda will be giving out samples of the men’s products to women in their salons to try to coax the men into using the products. Brilliant move, since many women probably buy their man’s beauty products anyways.

The right food choices can change everything from your energy level, your overall health and also your skin care. Did you know that some foods can help keep your skin healthy looking and beautiful? Maybe. But do you actually know what foods those are? If you are like us probably not.
We found this beauty news story helping us decipher which foods can boost our beauty routine. Here are the foods you should be eating and what they do:
Low Fat Milk Products – Skim milk and low fat yogurt help regenerate skin cells.
Berries – Antioxidants help keep skin looking fresh and youthful.
Pomegrantes – Strengthen blood vessels to give skin nutrients.
Omega-3 Fatty Acids – Certain fish, nuts and seeds will help reduce clogged pores and red, dry, itchy skin.
Green Tea – High levels of antioxidents and vitamins. It’s also an anti-inflammatory for redness or puffy skin.
Whole Grains – Vitamins help growth of new skin cells.
Vitamin E – Dark vegetables like spinach help protect skin from sun damage.
Insert some of these skin care friendly foods into your diet for some added glow without any effort at all.
Teen heartthrob Justin Bieber is joining the celebrity beauty endorsement craze by stepping in as the new face of Proactiv.
Sixteen year old Justin Bieber is promoting the skin care product in a new commercial. His commercial shows Justin Bieber being a ‘regular’ teen with ‘regular’ skin care problems like acne. He’s fooling around with his friends and playing basketball and washing his face to prevent acne.
Justin Bieber joins a list of young celebrities who have all smiled and showed off their skin for Proactiv. Katy Perry, Avril Lavigne, and Julianne Hough have all been Proactiv spokespeople at one time or another.
The skin care company is probably hoping that all of the young girls will want Proactiv because Justin Bieber uses it and the young boys will want it to get the girls who love him.
At Real Style Network beauty, we try a lot of different products. Like most people, we assume that our beauty products are safe to use. Why else would they sell them for us to use, right? After reading this beauty news story, we are thinking a little harder about the beauty, makeup and skin care products we use every day.
The report on beauty products shows that while known dangerous ingredients are banned in beauty products, there are still some that are making it in. Apparently only 13 per cent of beauty ingredients have been tested. With over 80,000 ingredients used, that leaves a lot of unknown territory.
So how can you keep yourself safe? Fortunately there are also tips to go along with the scary idea of using unknown ingredients on your body.
The tips to finding safe beauty products are: use less products (keeping exposure to a minimum), read the label on everything, use fragrance-free products, and try not to use products that have higher risks that may have more dangerous ingredients. These higher risk products are dark hair dye, nail polish, and powders.
We aren’t going to stop using these beauty products, but trying to keep yourself aware of what you are using is always wise. You wouldn’t eat food without knowing it was safe, so don’t use questionable beauty products either.
A new commercial from Dove has offended some women over the way the skin care company is portraying women. Now we all know Dove celebrates women of all ages, shapes and sizes. They broke boundaries with their Campaign For Real Beauty by showing average women celebrating their skin and bodies. Some are saying the new Dove commercial has taken the skin care company in the complete opposite direction.
The Dove soap commercial is a Mad Men parody, so you can imagine the setting. A couple of men in a boardroom discussing how to best promote Dove soap to women. The cute secretary comes in and overhears the men. She apologizes for speaking out of turn and gives the men advice on how Dove soap feels to her. The guys of course take her advice and congratulate themselves on a job well done.
Some women are outraged at the ad calling it sexist. They don’t think that just because Mad Men is popular, Dove has the right to portray women that way.
Unilever, the makers of Dove, say the ads are supposed to be light and funny and aren’t to be taken seriously. They actually have plans to spotlight a number of their other brands including Suave and Vaseline in the same type of ads.
Watch the new Dove soap Mad Men ad here and judge for yourself whether they went too far.

At Real Style Network, we love giving new Canadian companies a try. Since it seems like all the fun beauty stories comes from the UK, we get excited to find homegrown beauty. Body Food is a new natural beauty company creating all natural skin care products.
We tried the body Food All Natural Lotion in the office to see if it could outdo all of the other moisturizers. The Real Style Network office was split on the the lotion right from the moment we smelled it. The Citrus Blend scent was strong, but we couldn’t agree if it was too much. Some people loved the strong sweet lemon smell, while others thought it smelled more like dish soap than a skin care line.
The body Food moisturizer feels all natural. It is very thick, a little oily and even a little sticky a times. Because it’s so thick a little goes a very long way. The problem is if you don’t have extremely dry skin, this lotion is going to be too much. It made our skin feel greasy for too long. But if you had dry skin or used it on rough parts like the bottom of your feet it might be the perfect solution.
The body Food lotion is available now for $23.00 for a small and $40.00 for a large bottle. If you are in Toronto you can visit their stores in Liberty Village or Mississauga where you can smell all of their scents to find one you really like, because the scent is the key.
The slogan for the EOS Ultra Moisturizing Shave Cream starts “Can a shave cream make you smile?” When I first read that line I laughed, before using the EOS Shave Cream I didn’t think it could. I was wrong! Real Style Network was interested to try the EOS Shave Cream, because it actually wasn’t like all other shaving cream. You think there can’t be anything different, but EOS is changing the way we think about shaving.
The first big difference is that this is a cream. There is no foaming. We found the shave cream to be soft and smooth, like a moisturizer. The sweet pomegranate raspberry smell made it even harder to believe that this was for shaving.
It’s a little hard to see the cream once it’s applied to your legs in the shower. I almost instantly assumed that the EOS Shave Cream would clog up my razor and make shaving a pain. It washed off in the water just as easily as bubbly foam.
Now came the real test. EOS claims that you can use their shave cream to dry shave as well. As the queen of shaving on the go, this was a huge bonus for me. Think of the possibilities if it lives up to its claim. No more dry, itchy, bumpy legs from dry shaving. Ladies, the claims are true. You can use the EOS Ultra Moisturizing Shave Cream for dry shaving.
The shave cream still goes on thick like a moisturizer. My concerns of a clogged razor were more true to life here. The cream blocks up your razor quiet quickly, but give it a quick run under the tap and most of it will disappear. When you are done shaving rub in the excess to your legs and it’s like you have already moisturized. I purposely left one spot on legs dry to test the difference. I could instantly pinpoint the part of my leg without the soothing moisturizing of EOS’ shave cream.
With a long weekend approaching in Canada, we at Real Style Network want you not only to have fun, but stay safe while you are out in the sun. Catching some rays and enjoying the nice weather is good, but don’t leave your skin care routine behind just because you have an extra day off work. Dermatologist Dr. Patrick Bitter, Jr. who works with the San Jose Sharks and Clearly Beautiful Collagen Masks, has some tips on how you can protect the skin of your whole family from the sun this long weekend.
1. Know your sunscreens. Every parent knows that the best way to protect your child from sun exposure is to lather on the sunscreen. With hundreds of brands out there all advertising that they are the best, how can you be sure the lotion you are applying is really protecting against harmful UVA rays? According to experts, the best sunscreens should always contain zinc oxide or titanium dioxide. These two chemicals don’t irritate or get absorbed into children’s sensitive skin but still act as a powerful shield. Sunscreens should also always be broad spectrum, which means that they block both UVA and UVB rays protecting not only against sunburn, but wrinkles and aging of the skin.
2. BEENS. When it comes to favorite foods, parents know that beans are not on the tops of many kids’ lists. However, in the case of sun protection, BEENS is the best way to keep your child safe. An acronym for the most sensitive parts of the body, BEENS stands for back of the knees, ears, eye area, neck and scalp. If these body parts are properly covered, sunburn is 50% less likely to happen!
3. Cover Up. Even with sunscreen, the best option to fully protect against damaging skin is to wear dark, tightly woven clothes. Forget throwing on a white t-shirt. The light color absorbs more of the rays than it reflects. Instead, purchase sun protective clothing such as a kid’s full swimsuit or rash guard shirt which offers an ultra violet protection factor.
4. Don’t want to buy new clothes? The Skin Cancer Foundation recently did a study which found that simply using Tinosorb FD in your next load of laundry will instantly leave your clothes with 30 UPF. A laundry addictive that contains sunscreen, Tinosorb FD creates protection that lasts for as long as 20 washings!
5. Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate! The National Safe Kids Campaign estimates that every year one in four kids under the age of 14 will suffer from dehydration and heat stroke. The best way to keep your child completely hydrated during the summer months is to have him or her drink at least four glasses of water each hour. Liquids with electrolytes, such as Gatorade, are also very beneficial in balancing the still developing nervous system in children. Early symptoms of heat stroke include dry mouth, fatigue and irritability. These signs should be immediately addressed by the parent.
6. Parents – Don’t Forget About Your Skin! It can become easy to forget about your own health needs after fretting all day over your child’s well-being. In addition to following these tips, parents must also remember to protect their skin as well.
