For many Canadians, turning 18 years-old meant escaping to Montreal to sample the nightlife and also get a taste of freedom. While the city may be known as a top party destination in the True North, Montreal also is rich with history and attractions.  In celebration of its 375th<\/sup> birthday, Canada’s fashion and entertainment capital is also jam-packed with events to mark the occasion. The long-awaited arrival of spring kicks off many outdoor events and activities. From a week dedicated to drinking to a celebration of museums, each of the events is tailored to reflect Montreal\u2019s culture. Read on for some must-see events to check out this May. <\/p>\n

La F\u00eate Du Croissant (May 6)<\/strong><\/p>\n

La F\u00eate Du Croissant pays homage to the beloved French pastry. One day a year, over 75 bakeries sell freshly-baked plain croissants all day. If you have a loonie, then you have a croissant. Since it started in 2012, bakeries in Montreal and across Quebec participate in this event which honours the classic baked good, and also recognizes Montreal’s French roots. <\/p>\n

Invasion Cocktail (May 10-16)<\/strong><\/p>\n

A trip to Montreal wouldn\u2019t be complete without a couple of drinks. With your drinking \u201cpassport\u201d in hand for Invasion Cocktail, you can enjoy unique drinks from over 30 participating bars and pubs. Now in its fourth year, the event boasts over 200 different cocktails to try, and a festive brunch on May 15th<\/sup>.  Whether you are looking to expand your cocktail repertoire or celebrate like the locals do, this week-long festival just may help you soak up the city’s famous party vibes. <\/p>\n

Piknic Electronik (May 22-Oct 2)<\/strong><\/p>\n

Piknic Electronik originated in Melbourne, Australia and made its way to Montreal. It is a weekly outdoor music event that runs almost every Sunday from May to October. Hosted at Parc Jean-Drapeau, the event is an electronic music oasis with genres ranging from progressive house to tech house.<\/p>\n

Museums Day (May 28)<\/strong><\/p>\n

Since 1987, most of Montreal\u2019s museum network has hosted Museum Day once a year. The annual event gives visitors and locals a chance to explore the city\u2019s museums, and is also free of charge. Some of the participating museums are the Montreal Biodome, The Biosphere and the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. Aside from admission into the museums, there are special events and features being held as well.
