Photo: blooryorkville on Instagram

While most of us are ready to bid adieu to winter and welcome the beauty of springtime, there are still a few weeks ahead of snow and frost. Just in time for mid-winter, Bloor Yorkville Icefest returns to Toronto this weekend for another year. The event will run from 12 noon to 8 p.m. on Saturday, and 12 noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday.

This time, the annual free ice extravaganza in the city’s Yorkville neighbourbood also honours Canada’s 150th anniversary. As part of the festivities, Icefest is slated to include ice sculptures, an ice carving competition and an Icefest Lounge. The event claims to involve 20,000 pounds of ice, which will then be crafted into Canadian inspired creations. With this year marking Canada’s big birthday, the sculptures are expected to include the maple leaf, Parliament Buildings and the Mounties.
