While HGTV Canada host Bryan Baeumler may be best known for shows like House of Bryan<\/em> and Canada\u2019s Handyman Challenge<\/em>, the Canadian renovation expert has now returned with a new program. This time, Baeumler has employed his wife, Sarah, as his project manager on Bryan Inc<\/em>. The power couple\u2019s latest show will take viewers inside the challenges of Baeumler\u2019s construction company, which is based in Burlington, Ontario. Together, the Baeumlers will tackle building and design projects for their various clients, while sticking to a budget and balancing their family lives.<\/p>\n

Real Style spoke to the Baeumlers about the show, which premieres on Sunday, September 25 at 10 p.m. EST on HGTV Canada. As well, the contractor and project manager shared their thoughts on affordable home renos and their favourite interior design looks for the season ahead.<\/p>\n

Real Style: What can you tell us about your new show Bryan, Inc.?<\/em> <\/strong><\/p>\n

Bryan: <\/strong>Sarah has been really involved with the construction company and with all of our companies for the past 15 years. We\u2019re just pointing the camera at her now. We have close to 50 employees in our company. We build custom homes and do renos for other people. Sarah is getting a little more involved on the design side and the project management side. We thought it would be fun to capture a little bit of that.<\/p>\n

Real Style: What were some of the biggest design challenges of this show? <\/strong><\/p>\n

Sarah: <\/strong>I think for this project, it was a little bit different. Bryan and I have obviously worked together for a long time, doing some of our own homes and working on projects. With me taking on the project management role, we are looking at homes for other people. It was a learning curve. A lot of the times with your own home, you can make emotional decisions and decide where to save and splurge. This is business. At the end of the day, this is making sure that the business decisions were the right decisions.<\/p>\n

Real Style: What sets Bryan, Inc<\/em>. apart from your previous renovation shows, like House of Bryan<\/em> and Leave It To Bryan<\/em>?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Bryan: <\/strong>House of Bryan<\/em> is obviously a little more personal. We\u2019re building our own nest, and we\u2019re willing to sometimes break the bank and spend a little extra to make it exactly what we want. Bryan Inc.<\/em> is really boiling it down to my business, and it\u2019s what we do every day, so the decisions are business-focused. We have to keep in mind that there\u2019s a budget, a market, and the market can only bear so much.<\/p>\n

Real Style: You\u2019re a husband and wife team. Are there any creative challenges or differences, as part of working as a dynamic duo? <\/strong><\/p>\n

Sarah: <\/strong>We\u2019ve basically grown together. Our relationship has even grown as well. At some point, you have to stop the talk of the business and you have to be able to disconnect a little bit. Once we get home, we give each other a half an hour break where you can finish your thoughts and you discussion about business. Then we need to focus on our time as a couple, as parents and just sort of change the tone in which you\u2019re talking. It\u2019s no longer a business relationship between a boss and employee. Your family life is separate from your business life.<\/p>\n

Real Style: Bryan, tell us about your best tips for an effective home renovation on a budget.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Bryan:<\/strong> Most people look at their homes, and they are trying to decide what things cosmetically they want to do. When I go through a house and I make a decision about what we are going to do, I start with health and safety, followed by efficiency and longevity. It\u2019s really difficult because everyone has a different budget and situation. You really have to examine how long you are going to live in the house; budget and then you have to come up with a plan that fits within all of those things. Then you have to stop, sit down and stare at that plan for a couple of months, take your time and live with it in your mind. Once you\u2019ve got your budget, plan it.<\/p>\n

Real Style: Sarah, what are your favourite interior design looks for Fall 2016? <\/strong><\/p>\n

Sarah:<\/strong> As we are going into fall\/winter, we look into textures and feeling cozy. It\u2019s how to continue to bring the outdoors inside, to give you that warm feeling. Bryan always says in the winter, I\u2019m all about the throws and the layering of different rugs. I think we keep a very neutral colour scheme. That is my signature and what I\u2019m drawn to. I think it just translates well throughout the seasons. I\u2019m not somebody that will go and buy all new pillows for spring and fall.<\/p>\n

Real Style: Do you two have any favourite home finishes or materials for the season ahead? <\/strong><\/p>\n

Bryan:<\/strong> I really like natural, warm finishes. I like any of the natural stones, the oiled wood that is kind of a pre-finished flooring. I\u2019m very tactile.<\/p>\n

Sarah:<\/strong> I\u2019m an astute believer in mixing metals, and pulling in elements that are natural and playing off that. If there\u2019s something that you love, start with that and broaden your space around that item. Then we build the palette from there, the colours and the other decisions from those key items.<\/p>\n

Real Style: Which colours will be most in style at home for Fall 2016? <\/strong><\/p>\n

Sarah: <\/strong>I think when it comes to paints especially, it\u2019s so personal. I\u2019m actually known for my whites, and I love it. No matter what space I\u2019m looking at, whether it\u2019s a kitchen, bathroom or bedroom, I always start with some good neutrals. There are a million different types of white. I find white is very easy to work with, it\u2019s very classic. When you mix in natural stones and marbles, that is a beautiful palette.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
