Although September is certainly a month that spells out back to school and back to business, there’s still plenty of fun for those of us based in Toronto. Whether you’re an aspiring comedian or an avid reader, the city offers a cultural or artistic event for just about everyone this month.  Those of who are in the mood for a laugh should certainly head down to JFL42, the annual comedy festival that is slated to hit Toronto from September 21 to September 30. This year, there are 42 comedy acts for people to see. Rising star Ali Wong is a stand-up comic that will be a part of this year’s lineup, in addition to Saturday Night Live comedians Jay Pharoah, Janeane Garofalo and Jenny Slate, who are also slated to perform.

For those of us who are intrigued by literature, book nerds can rejoice at The Word on the Street Festival. The annual book and magazine festival takes place on September 24th at the Harbourfront Centre. This is the 28th year of the festival, and will include appearances from many Canadian authors, such as Elizabeth Hay and Marguerite Andersen. If you love adding new tomes to your home library, there will be plenty of books to choose from, as there will be over 200 vendors at the festival as well.
