Check Out The Anne Collier Exhibit At The AGO
American photographer Anne Collier’s work is the subject of the latest exhibit on now at the Art Gallery of Ontario in Toronto. It’s the first major solo exhibitions of her career, and it explores her work from 2002 to the present.
Almost 40 of Collier’s large prints are on display, including her signature Woman with a Camera series, which is an ongoing project that looks at the perception of women in the photographic medium. The exhibition was originally on display in New York at the CCS Bard Galleries at Bard College, before travelling to the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago, the Aspen Art Museum before arriving at the AGO, where it will be on display until January 2015.
The themes of Collier’s works include pop psychology, to the clichés and conventions of commercial photography, to the act of seeing. Several of her pieces create photos from other existing photographic materials, including record covers, magazine pages, Hollywood stills, appointment calendars, and postcards. Her voice builds upon the legacies of other artists such as Cindy Sherman and Richard Prince.
The Anne Collier exhibition runs from September 23, 2015 – January 10, 2016 at the AGO in Toronto.
