Top Summer Jazz Festivals Across Canada


As the sunny weather and laid-back weekends signal the beginning of summer, Real Style is pumped for the exciting array of summer jazz festivals set to hit cities across Canada. Whether you’re in Toronto or Winnipeg, there’s a jazz festival out there which promises to give you the blues- in a good way! Here’s our guide to the top jazz events this summer:

TD Toronto Jazz Festival, June 19-28: With an opening night act from Chaka Khan on June 19, along with outdoor performances from Melissa Etheridge, Deborah Cox, David Clayton-Thomas, and Dianne Reeves, the festival is set to be quite the talented affair! Look out for R&B and funk band Earth, Wind & Fire hitting Toronto’s Sony Centre on June 21.

TD Victoria International JazzFest, June 20-29:  If you’re ready for ten days of both local and international musicians, JazzFest is ready to impress with performances from Grammy Award-winning African artist Angélique Kidjo , jazz legend Bobby McFerrin, and Mississippi vocalist Cassandra Wilson.

TD Edmonton International Jazz Festival, June 20-29:  With jazz trio Medeski, Scofield Martin & Wood performing on June 22, along with Bobby McFerrin on June 29, the Edmonton festival promises great culture and incredible melodies. Be sure to check out the Emerging Artist Showcase, Edmonton Big Band Event, and the feature screening of “A Film About Kids and Music” as well.

Sasktel Saskatchewan Jazz Festival, June 20-29: With performances from Arturo Sandoval and Colin James, the festival kicks off on June 20. The event also features a stunning Shearwater River Cruise on the Saskatchewan River, with a gorgeous tour of Saskatoon’s natural scenery and landscape.

TD Ottawa Jazz Festival, June 20-July 1: It’s safe to say that the festival will be a luxe affair, especially with legendary diva Aretha Franklin performing on June 28. Other than the iconic Queen of Soul, this festival in downtown Ottawa features the Alex Goodman Trio on June 21 and Earth, Wind & Fire on June 26.

Beaches International Jazz Festival, Toronto, July 18-27: The annual event at Toronto’s Woodbine Beach features free admission, along with performers like the Just Friends Band, blues musician Jordan Patterson, and the Toronto Mass Choir. After all, we can’t think of anything more relaxing than upbeat summertime jazz tunes right by the beach!
