As the Fall 2016 shows continue to make a splash in New York City, the catwalks in the Big Apple are ablaze with an array of bold hues and elaborate designs for the season ahead.<\/p>\n

Japanese-born designer Tadashi Shoji focused on a key theme of body orientation, which translated into a series of skintight, racy styles for autumn. Models stormed the runways in tattoo inspired and form-fitting frocks which hugged every curve, with plenty of black and white abstract designs making their mark. Sheer detail, short hemlines and moody dark shades ruled the collection.<\/p>\n

At Carolina Herrera, the aesthetic was a sharp contrast and featured a variety of sleek and ultra-modern looks. Elegance was truly on display at the Venezuelan-American designer\u2019s show, which took place at New York City\u2019s Frick museum. The colours ranged from soft greys and pale pinks to rich dark purples and sweet pale blues. From softly flared dresses to polka dots and floral accents, ladylike charm was in the air. Meanwhile, 3-D embroidery and funky structured frocks stayed true to the modernized vibe of the collection.<\/p>\n

Tommy Hilfiger sent his models off to sea, as a strong nautical theme ruled the designer\u2019s latest creations. Bold horizontal stripes made an entrance on the runway, contrasted with whimsical prints and navy coats adorned with military buttons. With light blue, white and soft neutral shades ruling the collection, the runway transformed into an uber-stylish cruise ship.<\/p>\n

At Reem Acra, the grand theme was seduction, as lingerie inspired pieces made their way onto the catwalk. The slinky, barely-there designs were adorned with delicate lace, V-necklines and racy sheer panels. Punchy shades of red and blue brought colour to the elegant collection, while Victorian style lacy accents helped to create subtle sex appeal on the runway.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Monique Lhuillier channelled 1960s style icon and Dutch actress Talitha Getty in a new maximalist collection. The over-the-top looks ranged from fur-trimmed coats layered floor-length lacy frocks to funky floral accents and asymmetrical hemlines.<\/p>\n

Vintage inspiration was also en vogue at Diane von Furstenberg, where the designer turned to disco chic for a lineup of eye-catching looks. The 1970s style design aesthetic on display featured floaty bohemian frocks, knee-high suede boots and elegant fur stoles. Staying true to the party spirit of the decade, a long-sleeved gold sequin gown and a tie-dye jumpsuit also made their mark.<\/p>\n

As for Jenny Packham, the designer also took her design cues from the decade of the past and brought the 1980s to the catwalk. Inspired by the \u201880s party photos from fashion photographer Ross Whitaker, Packham unveiled a surprisingly edgy collection of shimmering gold frocks and dresses with embellished bustlines. The line\u2019s fiery colour palette favoured shades of yellow, red and orange, with daring thigh-high slits, lace and short hems on display.<\/p>\n
