Karl Lagerfeld’s New Chanel Film Starring Kristen Stewart Opens Today
While Karl Lagerfeld may be best known for his creations on the runway for Chanel, Fendi and his eponymous label, the 82-year-old German designer has also dabbled in directing and writing short films. Lagerfeld’s highly anticipated fashion short, Once and Forever, opens in Rome today just in time for Chanel’s new Métiers d’Art collection.
The new 11-minute film stars Kristen Stewart as the title character, an actress with a raging temper who has been cast as the legendary Gabrielle ‘Coco’ Chanel in a new movie. As the movie progresses, the 25-year-old actress depicts a fiery star with a diva attitude, who is unafraid to release her anger both on set and at a press conference.
In the film, Stewart stuns in a variety of vintage costumes, which include a white ruffled blouse and a strappy dress paired with a long string of pearls.
Once and Forever also stars American-born British actress Geraldine Chaplin, who plays the founder of the Paris-based fashion house in her later years.
In an interview with Women’s Wear Daily, Lagerfeld described his decision to cast Stewart in the new short.
“I think she’s one of the greatest actors of her generation,” Lagerfeld said. “She gives the right emotion and the right intensity immediately so it’s very easy to work her, like it’s easy to work with Geraldine.”
According to WWD, the new film will be screened at Rome’s Cinecittà studio and in studio No. 5. Here’s a closer look at the trailer for Once and Forever:
