Oscar de la Renta Has Died At Age 82

World-renowned fashion designer Oscar de La Renta sadly passed away Monday night at the age 82 after a long battle with cancer.
Dominican Republic born de La Renta moved to Madrid where he studied painting at the Academy of San Fernando at the age of 18. His career in fashion began soon after, when French fashion house founder, Cristóbal Balenciaga asked him to sketch for him. He then moved to Paris and started working for Lanvin. His final move was to New York in the early ’60s, where he launched his own label.
Fashion lovers and designers alike are all saddened by the loss of the great designer. Nina Garcia, Marie Claire’s creative director tweeted out, “So sad for the loss of this legend. Oscar de la Renta, thank you for all the beauty and inspiration you shared with us.”
De la Renta just recently named his brand’s first creative director just this month. Peter Copping, a favorite of Vogue magazine editor, Anna Wintour.
Oscar recently designed George Clooney’s wife, Amal’s, wedding dress that she wore in Venice.
