TFI New Labels 2013
In celebration of Toronto-based emerging fashion talent, last night the city’s most stylish stepped out in their finest to attend one of the industry’s most important events. Hosted by TFI and sponsored by Target Canada, the New Labels Fashion Design Competition runway show, held at the Carlu with Dina Pugliese as Master of Ceremony, is a prestigious event that gives design talent the platform to take their label to the next level. This year the prize consisted of $25,000 (thanks to Suzanne Rogers), a spread in Flare magazine and the winning collection to be sold at Target in 2014.
With such a prize at stake, as might be imagined, every designer brought their A-game with colourful prints and laser cut materials inspired by Dutch Baroque period defining Sarah Stevenson’s collection; minimalistic feminine separates sent out by Paria Shirvani; soft feminine silhouettes in a clean palette (said to be inspired by the blush on ones cheek when caught in the cold winter wind) by design duo Christopher Paunil (with Chalo Barrueta) and a youthful collection of strong architectural pieces created by SevenThirtyOne.

Ultimately it was Sarah Stevenson who took home the grand prize coming out to a standing ovation, and while we can’t wait to see where this will launch her, we are certain to soon hear of the success story of each of these designers.
