New York Fashion Week Fall 2013– Oscar De La Renta, Vera Wang, Rodarte, & Michael Kors

New York Fashion Week is still going strong and some of our favourite American designers have been bringing us the best for Fall 2013. See highlights from some of the top designers here:

Oscar de La Renta

Everyone was very curious to see what would walk down the runway after work broke that John Galliano was working in the Oscar de la Renta studios. While some of Galliano’s trademark flair is visible, the collection is very much ODLR’s classic ladylike style. Knee and midi-length pencil skirts and sheath dresses with draped jackets offered a retro look with a modern twist. Long capes and wraps were romantic and edgy over leather pants. The cocktail dresses and gowns were so glamourous with beautiful prints, decadent textures of fur and feathers, and elegant lace and embroidery. Expect to see lots of lavish ODRL on red carpets soon. Vera Wang

The designer brought a feminine twist to her basic black this season to lighten up for fall. The collection started with a variety of black and white cocktail dresses. She played with silhouette through oversized wraps and different structured skirt. As it moved into evening wear Vera Wang added colour with pink, purple and rust colour lace and floral prints and sequins. It was a very feminine collection for the often androgynous designer. The Rodarte sisters create a sentimental collection this season inspired by their California hometown and the outfits contained their trademark quirks and unique style. Much of the designs were very oversized, draped and layered for a relaxed feel. The show started with a palette of beige, black and white, but quickly brightened for bold colourfully printed dresses with a real southwestern flair. See the Rodarte runway show now:

Michael Kors

The all-American designer had a very edgy sporty twist on his fall 2013 collection with camo prints and neoprene being added to his classic daywear. The palette was full of basic shades of bright blue and orange all paired with black. Eveningwear was interesting with sheath dressed with high-low skirts in bright colours layered over top. It was all a fresh take on classic pieces. Watch the Michael Kors show now:
