Lovas and Basch Kick Off Toronto Fashion Week Fall 2012
Lovas and Basch kicked off the fall/winter 2012 fashion season this week with collections complete with floor length gowns and vibrant colours to mix into your basic black and grey wardrobe.
Basch gave us his signature sexy mini dresses seen in both black and silver sequins- always a staple for a fun night out. Mixed in were a few work ready dresses with subtle prints and delicate black bows. We’re huge fans of fur and Basch gave us the option of a cute sleeveless bolero or a coat with a tie to cinch at your waist.
Lovas catered to the sophisticated woman with an array of knee length dresses, both appropriate for work or a social event. The ombre tweed prints in beige and black added a classic twist to the form fitting dresses. Pops of cobalt blue brightened up the runway in the forms of a silk party dress, a jewelled python print dress, and a stunning floor length gown in the same python print with ruffle detailing. Both brands showed us that like the spring trends, fall fashion will be all about dainty and feminine pieces.
During the show post-secondary students studying fashion design had the opportunity of a lifetime to battle it out with a runway show showcasing two looks. The ‘Basch it Up’ competition gave these young designers a chance to expose their work in front of media and guests, work one-on-one with big names in Canadian fashion like Wesley Badanjak of Lovas, and compete for the big prize, a six-month paid internship at Eleventh Floor Apparel, a $1000 clothing allowance from Basch, and a $700 clothing allowance from Eleven boutique in Toronto, where the winning outfit will be sold.
George Brown student Sarah McGowan won the competition and many new fans from the audience. The attention to detail on her winning dress impressed the judges David Dixon, Wesley Badanjak, Arthur Mendonca and Tamar Matossian. We will definitely be keeping our eyes peeled on this local up and coming designer and we expect to see her designs gracing the runway again in the near future.
