Female designers have been well represented at New York Fashion Week . Here we are taking a look at some of fashion’s leading ladies including Rodarte, Vera Wang and Tory Burch’s Spring 2012 shows.

The Mulleavy sisters chose an interesting inspiration for their Spring line getting the idea of the colours and prints of the garments from the Disney classic Sleeping Beauty combined with the art of Vincent van Gogh. The collection therefore sported very vibrant shades of blue, yellow and purple along with floral and watercolour prints. The collection carried many styles of dresses from 50’s style with full skirts to long airy maxis and structured sheaths. For others there were separates of cropped pants in bright colours and structured blouses and tanks. See the Rodarte Spring collection here:

Vera Wang
This Spring Vera moved away from the all black looks she favoured in the past for a lighter line inspired by Alice in Wonderland. Fear not though, this isn’t blue dresses and petticoats, but light airy looks that floated on models. White sheer fabrics made up long dresses and separates. There were also tripped watercolour prints in bright shades of yellow and pink. The collection was very pretty with interested cuts on hemlines and wraps on jackets making each look a little bit different. See Vera Wang’s collection here:

Tory Burch
This is Tory Burch’s first runway show in over seven years (previously she would put on presentations), so this is a big step for the New York designer. She was inspired by the fashion of the twenties for her Spring show. There was a lot of pattern in the retro line with stripes, polka dots and florals all making an appearance alongside floral appliques, fringe and beaded garments. It was still very wearable with all of the extras as skirt suits, separates and dresses from maxi to sheath will fit into the everyday wardrobe nicely. Watch Tory Burch’s first fashion show here:
