FASHION TRENDS: Southwestern Prints
We’re ready to ride off into the sunset with this trend inspired by Pueblo and Navajo textiles. We first saw southwestern prints surface this season at the Just Cavalli Spring/Summer 2011 show where rich, colourful quilted vests and jackets popped against rugged denim. Anna Sui took a more ladylike approach to the trend, taking her inspiration from styles of the late 1960s meshed with Native American patterns and accessories. Sui’s signature prints were paired with beads, feathers, quilting, embroidery and crochet work all with strong bohemian undertones. Whitney Port took a less literal route pairing two trends to create an eye-popping ensemble. Leaving the desert in the dust, Port wore a Navajo print blazer from her line, Whitney Eve, with a colour block dress and black Balenciaga ankle boots for a more polished look.
Which interpretation of the trend do you like best?
