Toronto Fashon Week: David Dixon Fall 2011
Despite rumors that his show was cancelled, David Dixon showed his Fall 2011 collection behind schedule at Toronto Fashion Week. From the reaction of the crowd and the length of the show, the wait was well worth it. The presentation marked Dixon’s “Sweet Sixteen” anniversary of his signature collection which debuted in 1995. The theme of the show was “Reunion” and was dedicated to his parents.
The show started with a clip of Dixon sketching and creating his designs. The collection consisted of a lot of red, black and white gowns and tribal and animal print in the same colours. David Dixon included a Barbie dress designed for his partnership with the brand. The dress was frilly and had a pink bow around the waist, the words “Sweet Sixteen” on the screen couldn’t have represented this dress any better. Any young woman would love this dress.
The highlight of the collection was the stunning evening wear with pleated bustiers, wrap dresses, and floor length gowns. Models hair and makeup consisted of thin braids, red lips and bold brows. With red lips on many of the runways this season including Micalla, it looks like the bold lip will be present for a long time. Several people in attendance appreciated the collection with a standing ovation upon closing. David Dixon was welcomed to take his bow at the closing of the show by his brother.
