FASHION SHOWS: Canadian Designers At New York Fashion Week
While some of the American’s best designers had the top headlines at New York Fashion Week, this year a growing number of Canadian fashion designers made the trip to be a part of the huge showcase. Here is a look at a few of the Canadian fashion designers who showed in New York:
A favourite at Toronto Fashion Week, Kimberley Newport-Mimran took her Pink Tartan line to New York this season to give fashion’s elite a gallery show instead of a typical runway presentation. The designer said she wanted to combine her love of sportswear and couture for this line, so it included tradition looks like tailored jackets and knits alongside sequined shirts and feathered skirts. The looks were, as always, wearable pieces in her classic chic style. See photos from the whole line here.
Laing was inspired by the lunar eclipse for the fall giving his line interesting circular shapes and patterns without being too cliché and spacey. Fitted dresses had prints that looked like the moon’s surface, while other garments just had large circles. Laing’s line had a very casual and comfortable feel about it with skirts being loose, oversized jackets and blazers, and roomy draped dresses. Everything looked like it was made for comfort first including the big cocoon coats and dresses, long sweaters and loose dresses. See the whole Jeremy Laing presentation here:
French designers Mackage took a trip back to old Hollywood and Paris for their fall line presenting a classic collection for the traditional lady. Dresses, skirts and coats had a retro feel with nipped waists and deep v neck lines. For something different there were also sleek and sexy fitted mini dresses. Trousers came in casual cool looks including skinny pants, leather, and wide leg all with Mackage’s well made jackets to accompany. See the Mackage show here:
