FASHION NEWS: Target Is Coming To Canada
In big Canadian fashion news, HBC and Target have announced that Target will be taking over most of the current Zellers locations. Two hundred to 250 locations will become Target stores in 2013.
This is great news to Canadians who are already big fans of the fashionable, low cost retailer. According to a report in the Financial Times, “tens of thousands” of Canadians already have Target cards. In a few years, they won’t have to make the cross-border journey to shop.
This is also good news for Canadian shoppers for a number of other reasons. First of all, Target is a good source of affordable and fashionable clothing. The company plans to match Wal-Mart in Canada, meaning the prices will be low. They were one of the first to collaborate with designers, starting a trend that has spread across lower priced clothing stores. Target’s designer collaborations have included Isaac Mizrahi, Anna Sui, Rodarte, Zac Posen and Alexander McQueen. Since Target began the trend, we have seen stores including H&M, The Gap and Topshop all present collaborative lines with top name designers.
Some think this may also lead to other big name American stores to follow suit and head to Canada. A big chain like Target could change the landscape of affordable fashion in Canada. We can’t wait to see what will come from it.
