Léa Seydoux, Matthias Schoenaerts And Thomas Vinterberg Discuss Kursk

While we may not know exactly what happened on August 12, 2000 when a Russian submarine suffered an explosion during a training exercise that sank the vessel and killed all 118 personnel on board, there are plenty of theories. One such theory is put on display in the form of the film Kursk. The film stars Léa Seydoux and Matthias Schoenaerts and is directed by Thomas Vinterberg. We had a chance to talk to all three during TIFF 2018, and they gave us some insight into not only filming the movie, but what they think of the story as well.

Kursk Is An Interesting Look At The 2000 Russian Submarine Disaster

In 2000 during a naval exercise an explosion within a Russian submarine caused the deaths of 118 sailors and officers. At the time Russian officials claimed that all aboard the vessel were killed instantly, but a few days later it was revealed than a handful had survived the initial explosion and were trapped in a separate section of the submarine. Unfortunately they were unable to be rescued. Kursk tells their story.

Canadian author Patrick DeWitt has been writing witty, intelligent, dark comedy novels since 2009 when Ablutions was first released. Two years later he released his second novel, The Sisters Brothers, which arguably has been his most successful novel to date. Actor John C. Reilly liked the novel so much that he picked the rights up for it, and now a movie by the same is about to hit theaters after premiering at the Venice and Toronto Film Festivals.

The last time Damien Chazelle and Ryan Gosling brought a movie to TIFF was in 2016 when they came with La La Land. If you were old enough to pay attention to politics in 1988, odds are you’ve heard this story before. U.S. Senator Gary Hart was running for President of the United States, and was considered the front runner for the Democratic party to do so, when suddenly his campaign was derailed by a scandalous love affair. Canadian director Jason Reitman loved the story so much that he decided to make a movie about it, and he pulled Hugh Jackman with him to star as the disgraced Senator.

Tiff can be a little overwhelming. After all with over 300 movies screening throughout the festival, it can be a little hard to figure out what you want to see. This year’s line-up features some of Hollywood’s (not to mention the world’s) biggest stars as well. TIFF Announces Their First Lineup Of Films For 2018

Some big names are heading to Toronto in September once again for the annual Toronto International Film Festival, and buzz is already starting to grow.
