Gossip Girl Reboot Casts First Five Roles
It’s been almost a year since it was announced that HBO Max would be airing a Gossip Girl reboot, and now it looks as if they are finally moving forward with the series. The first five cast members have been signed, but as of yet no launch date has been announced.
The CW series Gossip Girl was a huge hit for the network from 2007 – 2012. It followed the story of a group of privileged teens in New York who found their lives written about by a mysterious blogger. Blake Lively, Leighton Meester, Penn Badgley and Chace Crawford were among the many stars. The reboot is set to pick up eight years after the original, and will follow a new generation of New York private-school teens who become Gossip Girl’s new focus. It’s said the new show will address how much social media, and New York, has changed since the original show went off the air.
The new cast that have signed so far are Whitney Peak, Eli Brown, Emily Alyn Lind, Johnathan Fernandez and Jason Gotay, and they will be joined by Kristen Bell who will once again repirse her role as the narrator and the voice of Gossip Girl. The only character that has been given a name so far is Audrey, who will be played by Lind. Audrey is in a long-term relationship, but it starting to second guess it as she wonders what else may be out there.
The 10-episode series was given a straight-to-series order back in July of last year, but won’t be ready for HBO Max’s launch in May of this year. There are plans to launch 31 original series this year however, and Gossip Girl is more than likely to be among them. The streaming series will also be home to thousands of hours of library content from WarnerMedia properties, including Friends, The Big Bang Theory, Game of Thrones, The Sopranos and South Park.
